Left wing Member of Parliament Clare Daly asked of Obama during a speech before parliament at the end of the G8 summit held in Northern Ireland. "Because we have to call things by their right names, and the reality is that by any serious examination, this man is a war criminal," she was quoted as saying by The Huffington Post. "This is the man who has facilitated a 200 percent increase in the use of drones, which have killed thousands of people including hundreds of children," Daly said. The Irish politician also criticized the Obama administration for escalating war in Syria and sending arms to foreign-backed militants in the country. Obama is “in essence stalling the Geneva peace talks by trying to broker enhanced leverage for the Syrian opposition by giving them arms - and to hell with the thousands more who’ll lose their lives, or the tens of thousands who will be displaced,” she argued. The U.S. president’s global approval rating has significantly declined since he first took office in 2009, according to a poll conducted by Pew Research in June 2012. The poll showed that confidence in Obama has declined by 24 percent and approval of his policies has fallen 30 points since 2009. Obama took office five years ago, vowing to change policies of the George W. Bush’s administration. However, he failed to keep his promises. During his first term in office, President Obama increased drone attacks in Pakistan, Yemen, and several other countries. The strikes left many civilians, including women and children, dead. Recently, the White House authorized arming the militants fighting government forces in Syria. The move was criticized by some American politicians. Former Congressman Ron Paul rebuked the Obama administration for “escalating” the war in Syria. “He [Obama] now has agreed to send weaponry in to assist the rebels. It’s escalation, that’s a proper word, because we’ve already been involved for quite a few months. We’ve been supporting the rebels for probably the past two years, supposedly for humanitarian reasons,” he said. “But now there is going to be a much more aggressive approach and we’re going to send weapons. There is a few problems with this, first off it’s war. Second thing is presidents are not supposed to start war without permission from the people through a congressional declaration of war,” Paul argued. Meanwhile, a majority of Americans are against a military attack against Syria. A poll conducted by Gallup last month showed that 68 percent of Americans said the United States should not take any military action in Syria.
