JULY 8--The Oklahoma woman who had a loaded handgun concealed in her vagina when she was arrested earlier this year on a drug charge has been sentenced to 25 years in state prison, according to court records. Christie Dawn Harris, 28, last week entered no contest pleas to three felony counts during a hearing in Pontotoc County District Court. Harris, whose rap sheet already includes Judge Steven Kessinger sentenced Harris to serve 25 years on each count, with the penalties to run concurrently. He also ordered her to pay $1363 in court costs and fees. Harris, seen in the adjacent mug shot, was arrested in March after a drug dog alerted to a vehicle in which she and another woman were seated (the car was parked outside a closed restaurant at 3:45 AM). A subsequent search of the Toyota Yaris turned up meth, drug paraphernalia, a .25 caliber semi-automatic pistol, and a loaded magazine. While being transported to jail, Harris told a cop “several times that she needed to go to the bathroom,” according to an Ada Police Department report. During processing at the jail, Harris balked when directed to lower her underwear so that a female officer could check for contraband. She “advised that she was on her period and did not want to,” cops noted. After Harris complied with police, Officer Kathy Unbewust reported, “I observed at that time a wooden and metal item sticking out from her vagina area.” Unbewust then “pulled the item from her vagina, and found it to be a 5 shot revolver with rounds in the chamber.” The handgun, which was disassembled by cops, is seen in the above left evidence photo. Investigators subsequently identified the weapon as a Freedom Arms .22-caliber handgun, which was loaded with three live rounds and one spent shell. She got 25 years based her prior felony convictions...three strikes laws are still in full force. It's a mandatory minimum for sentencing after they have three felonies. The way it works is that even if the judge believes a lighter sentence is in order nothing can be done because the mandatory minimum is statute for sentencing. With prison overcrowding and good behavior, she should be out in 2 years or less. Still it sucks and is wrong, considering she didn't hurt anybody but herself by taking drugs, but is not quite as bad as facing murder charges for killing cops. seems like drug related stuff but regardless, anyone facing 20+ years in jail is crazy not to become a full fledged fugitive. there is nothing left to lose.

Actually, the still photo of the gun (before starting the video) is the .22 magnum version of the Freedom Arms revolver. The cylinder is actually longer on the mag than on the .22 short and .22 LR versions of the gun, and the guns can be purchased with over sized grips and longer barrels as well. Note to farmfriend: They actually make belt buckles that incorporate these tiny revolvers in them, just like the ones made by MATTEL Toys when I was a kid. The toy had a traditional two-shot Remington style *Derringer in it instead of a revolver. A spring-loaded quick release button swings the revolver outward and it then slides off a little pawl/hanger, but because they're single action only and slow to cock (because of their tiny sizes) it's not really the best defense tool, and it's probably best relied upon as a threat. (based on the theory that a .22 in hand is better than a .44 mag at home in your gun safe) Any drug or adrenalin addled suspect shot with one (in any but the most carefully placed of locations made more difficult by the short sight plane) is apt to get angry and resort to violence. ______________________________________________ *The original Deringer (with one "r" was a single shot black powder muzzle loading pistol such as the .41 cal used on Abe Lincoln. Those guns were made to shoot rim fire and center fire metallic cartridges. Gen. Douglas MacArthur has many (made by Remington) in his museum collection in his mausoleum in Norfolk, VA.
