Rust-Oleum NeverWet, Superhydrophobic Coating That Makes Everyday Materials Repel Liquid (THIS IS SO COOL!)

Rust-Oleum NeverWet is a new superhydrophobic spray that makes everyday materials incredibly moisture- and stain-resistant. NeverWet contains nano-particles that create a coating on which water beads in near perfect spheres, causing it to glide off the surface with almost no friction. The coating can be applied to a variety of materials, including metal, wood, fabric, leather, and cardboard. It can even be used to waterproof an iPhone. The two-spray system was produced by Rust-Oleum in partnership with the nano-technology’s developer, NeverWet. For more on the coating, see this article by Lancaster Online.

I'm COATING EVERYTHING!!! Lol!

I just checked out the ratings on Amazon and it is a 2.5 Star product with 49% rating it 1 star. Evidently it does work but is not very durable.

Not worth the price; dosen't last long

I tried this product on several items. First off, it dries with a haze to it. I also noticed that it can be rubbed off and probably isn't good for any high traffic uses. Also, you cannot apply soap, motor oil or several other solvents on the surface - they break down the coating. Also, for 20 bucks it only covers like 10 square feet with a single coat. If you need to apply more than one coat on anything like clothing or larger metal surfaces, it will get very expensive and is not permanent. Since it seems to wear off rather easily, I wouldn't try it on anything electronic and expect more than temporary results. This seems to be a product not quite ready for prime time.

You are most welcome. I was curious myself since I have a new pair of shoes that I thought it might be a great waterproof treatment for. Oh, well - back to "Mink Oil".

Me too. It is a wonderful idea, but what they need to do is to make a more durable binder for the nanoparticles, and preferably one that does not cause an extreme color shift.
