News blurb speech from the Rose Garden just now.

He'll have discussions when they re-convene.

Amazing.

The First Ape is mad: Syria poses NO threat to America or American interests, and that's discounting Israel's security being an American interest.

That being said, I fully expect Congress to give that declaration of war after the "Yea" votes are counted and the appropriate number of "Nay" votes are passed out to those who need them to win re-election next year.

Correct.

One of his most awful speeches, ever, should be on the 'tube soon.

(I'm actually having to do some office work this afternoon.)

Of course...why it matters now when it did not in Libya is anyones guess...

The Wash Post article link below gives a summary of how Obama was able to successfully skate around the War Powers Act requirements with regards to Libya.

Obama was actually sued by some Congressmen about Libya, which I did not know at the time.

Basically Obama claimed that he did not need Congress's approval for Libya because the US was "merely" providing "air support" to NATO's operation which was led by France and Britain and the USA was just a bit player in the NATO operation and only fulfilling its obligations as a NATO member.

All B.S. of course, but that's how Obama The Teflon Man managed to pull off the Libya thingy. Also what's unsaid is that Quadafi was a bad actor who still carried bad baggage from the Lockerbie bombing, so the sheeple weren't too concerned if he got deposed. Also there weren't any nations in Qadafi's corner.

IMHO, a different kettle of fish re: Syria from the sheeple's point of view and why they've been burning up telephone lines to their politicians.

1.Benghazi happened and the public world wide got pissed off with the revelations.

2. Western economies by and large have gotten worse since Libya. The people are getting restive in Europe and in the USA. Wars cost taxpayers $.

3. Assad Junior doesn't have any distinctive bad baggage like Quadafi had and Syria hasn't done any bad things to Western nations like Libya did, so Obama has a hard time developing a believable lie about Syria and/or Assad posing a security threat to America.

4. Syria has a strong Orthodox Christian minority in its midst and Assad has been a protector of Christians from the nasty anti-Christian Syrian Sunni majority. So Euro+ US + Russian Christian voters are concerned about what will happen to their brethren in Syria if Tomahawk bombs are dropped in Syria and Assad is deposed. Libya didn't have much of a Christian presence that I can recall.

5. Assad has Russia in his corner and Putin is posturing mano-a-mano stances to The BikeRiderInChief. Assad also has China squawking on his behalf (and properly sending him weapons on the QT).

6. There's no NATO or Arab League to cover Obama's unilateral war of aggression on Syria as there was for Libya.

I fully expect Congress to give that declaration of war after the "Yea" votes are counted and the appropriate number of "Nay" votes are passed out to those who need them to win re-election next year.

Obama needs 218 votes in the House to get his war of aggression approved. That's no cake walk.

Apart from Pelosi and Boehner who are for sure/in the pot/slam dunk "yes" votes, TheBikeRiderInChief still needs to scrape together 216 yes votes. His own Demrat critters are getting increasingly more nervous about voter backlash - not just in 2014 but also in 2016 when the WH is up for grabs.

This Syria thingy has gotten a pretty high profile with the public at large and there's been very loud voices from many quarters claiming that the CW attack was a false flag, something I can't recall happening before.

Even Putin has taken a public stand today saying he has ZERO DOUBT that the CW event was a ruse. That's strong language coming from the leader of a Euro nation, who is begrudgingly respected even by Americans.

Furthermore, having the Greasy Saudis identified as America's ally tied to its hip, who are promoting the war on Syria, has not helped Obama's case. It's tricky saying anything critical about Israel these days, but Americans are not constrained from being openly contemptuous of the House of Saud. Even politically correct Californians hate the greasy Saudis.

www.nytimes.com/2013/09/0...74-10z7Tq2dTc6Qsga/vytFkA

snip

But the administration had not convinced everyone. Mr. Putin argued that it was “simply utter nonsense” to believe Syria’s government would launch such an attack and challenged the United States to present any evidence to the United Nations.

“I am convinced that it is nothing more than a provocation by those who want to involve other countries in the Syrian conflict, who want to gain the support of powerful members in international affairs, primarily, of course the United States,” Mr. Putin said in his first public remarks since reports of the chemical attack emerged. “I have no doubts about it.”

Doesn't this action kinda invalidate any and all justifications for the last many invasions (Libya,Iraq,Yeamen, Somilia, DRC etc.etc)? It has been quite awhile since a president asked to go to war and you are right about it being a chance for him to have a way out. But will that happen?

IT would be an insanely stupid move on our representatives part so it seems completely reasonable that they would have no problem with it.

watch out of the temper tantrum if he doesn't get it.

A study group recently released its findings as to the best presidents of the United States of America.

Obama has been rated as the 4th best president ever:

Reagan and 9 others tied for first, 15 presidents tied for second, 18 tied for third, and Obama came in fourth.

No doubt by now AIPAC is calling the members of Congress in their pockets and demanding a vote for war, and no doubt the NSA is calling all the members of Congress and reminding them of the dirty little secrets the NSA has the evidence on.

At this point, even if Congress votes for war, there is no reason for We The People to go along. Congress destroyed their credibility with Iraq and never got it back. Any congressional vote is meaningless if it does not actually represent the will of the people.

But what Obama just did is clever. He knows the American people oppose him starting another war, and contrary to Obama's claim, he does not have the authority to launch a war against Syria on his own unless Syria directly attacks the United States. But Obama is hoping to be able to support the push for war with the cover of Congress, so that the peoples' anger is diffused across 500 politicians, rather than just focused on the White House. Should the Congress vote it down as did Parliament, Obama drops the "failure to act" on Congress and walks away with his presidential image looking good.

Meanwhile, Obama has succeeded in distracting the corporate media away from Benghazi, the IRS' targeting of political enemies, the NSA spying on everyone, etc. (But we'll pick up the slack!)

In any event, it is time to gather outside the offices of your Representatives and Senators and glare through the windows!

Chemical weapons in Syria brought to you by The Carlyle Group

http://www.waynemadsenreport.com/articles/20130830_3

August 30-September 1, 2013 -- Evidence of American War Crimes Likely Target in Syria
publication date: Aug 30, 2013

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

August 8, 2013

Frank Gregory Ford
Evidence of American War Crimes Likely Target in Syria

By Frank Gregory Ford, former U.S. Military Intelligence Agent

While Obama's Department of Justice seeks to shield the Bush Administration by declaring their war crimes “business as usual,” his Department of Defense prepares to eliminate hard evidence of those crimes by destroying Syria's stockpile of weapons of mass destruction. Those WMDs came from us.

I saw canisters, “bombs,” of VX/GF in storage in Iraq. They were tagged showing they were shipped there from Ft. Rucker, Alabama by the Carlyle Group, the giant blue-ribbon finance-and-weapons conglomerate, home to former-President George H.W. Bush and other prominent war profiteers.

The nerve agent VX is the deadliest chemical weapon ever made. It is useful only for the indiscriminate destruction of human and animal life. It has been outlawed internationally, most recently by the Chemical Weapons Convention of 1993, by the Biological and Toxic Weapons Convention of 1972 and the Geneva Protocol of 1925.

We supplied VX to Iraq's leader, Saddam Hussein, before we named him an enemy. He used it in his war against Iran and against civilian Iraqi Kurds. I learned from an Iraqi official that just before our 2003 invasion Saddam shipped great quantities of gold and nerve gas to Syria. I reported this “actionable intelligence” to my superiors, but no action followed.

The stockpile I saw was never shipped out of Iraq. It was hidden from weapons inspectors until I and others saw it in 2003, just days after we invaded. It was soon removed from its concealment by British specialists and destroyed.

It is virtually certain that this weapons cache is targeted in our run-up to an attack on Syria—as before, with Iraq—for using U.S.-made weapons. The attack is also virtually certain to eliminate evidence of complicity by the Bush presidents, father and son, who, through their positions as American presidents and as associates of the Carlyle Group and myriad other military contractors, provided them to the warring nations of the Middle East.

As with Iraq, Afghanistan and so many of America's recent military engagements, this looming rebuke to Bashar al-Assad for allegedly using internationally outlawed American-made weapons, will fall on a vastly smaller opponent. Syria has a population of fewer than 23 million highly vulnerable men, women and children in a country that would fit in Texas almost four times. The capital, Damascus, the home of the government and location of the WMD stockpile, is the oldest continuously occupied city in the world.

I don't think the NSA has a dog in this fight. In fact it might be in NSA's best interests if there were no attack on Syria, because the NSA's budget may take a hefty cut to pay for the $1 billion per day cost of the US going solo on this war.

As a counter weight to AIPAC, no doubt the Clinton Arkansas Take No Prisoners Brigade will be calling Demrat critters warning them that HildaBeast took the heat for Obama's Benghazi goof-up on the condition she gets crowned as President in 2016, and that a Syrian war would jeopardize her chances, and if that happens there's going to be some heads committing suicide as a consequence.

The only option I see for the Republicans is for John Boehner to issue a statement that the POTUS' request for action on Syria will be put on the congressional calendar for 2014: Obummer will lose it at that point and the political/personal insult to Obummer will effectively cut his balls off in a very public manner.

But that fact is not a reason for the NSA to want a Syrian war. Some gov't depts will need to take it in the neck - have their budget cut - to pay for the DOD's war costs. Even without boots on the ground, Tomahawk missiles cost lots of $ per day especially when the USA is the only nation dropping them - I've read it would be $1 Billion per day.

Ha!

BTW, here's a few interesting facts relating to religion that may add to the displeasure that Israel and the House of Saud have for Assad and his ruling Alawite Shia minority party in Syria.

Per wiki:

1. Alawites are mystical Shiite religious group who believe in Jesus Christ's birth and celebrate Palm Sunday. Definite no-no for Israeli Zionists.

2. The Sunnis used to rule Syria, until Assad's Dad led a coup and threw them out of office. Prior to the coup, the Syrian constitution stipulated that only a Sunni could be Syrian President. Assad's Dad installed a new Constitution that required only a Muslim leader, not Sunni specifically. The greasy Sunni Saudis probably haven't forgiven Assad for his Dad knocking out their brethren as rulers of Syria.

It is not true that all Jews want the US to attack Syria. It's only Zionist Jews and Israelis + possibly even some evangelical Christians who are pressing for this unlawful attack.
