Excellent debate. Thanks for posting.

That one gal named Hillary Mann Leverett took on the other 3 liars and wiped the floor with them.

I wish she were in elected office. She has the kind of quick thinking mind and passion for America's best interests and knowledge about US law and int'l law that We The People need in Congress.

She also shows that we can and we should learn from History and not repeat our previous mistakes. ( she served under both the Clinton and the George W. Bush administrations and learned from mistakes done due to lies, falsifications of evidence, and herd mentality, etc)

This is a must see video clip for all Americans to watch.

US law and int'l law

At 13:27-15:25, there is a discussion about Responsibility to Punish/Responsibility to Protect.

Responsibility to Protect [aka R2P or RtoP] was also mentioned at the 4um topic, Syria: A catastrophe in the making. It is defined at the Wikipedia link as:

a United Nations initiative established in 2005. It consists of an emerging intended norm, or set of principles, based on the claim that sovereignty is not a right, but a responsibility.[1] R2P focuses on preventing and halting four crimes: genocide, war crimes, crimes against humanity, and ethnic cleansing, which it places under the generic umbrella term of mass atrocity crimes.[2] The R2P has three "pillars":[3][4]

1.A state has a responsibility to protect its population from genocide, war crimes, crimes against humanity, and ethnic cleansing.
2.The international community has a responsibility to assist the state to fulfill its primary responsibility.
3.If the state manifestly fails to protect its citizens from the four above mass atrocities and peaceful measures have failed, the international community has the responsibility to intervene through coercive measures such as economic sanctions. Military intervention is considered the last resort.

In the international community R2P is a norm, not a law, however it is grounded in international law.[5][6] R2P provides a framework for using tools that already exist, i.e. mediation, early warning mechanisms, economic sanctioning, and chapter VII powers, to prevent mass atrocities. Civil society organizations, States, regional organizations, and international institutions all have a role to play in the R2P process. The authority to employ the last resort and intervene militarily rests solely with United Nations Security Council.

Out of the UN now. It does not have any Constitutionally legitimate power or authority to convert America's Military into a Global Police Force and Protection/Punishment Racket.

Edited for formatting. P.S. Out of NATO too for the same reason.

This is exactly what Assad is trying to do!

Notice, too, that rebels attempting to overthrow a valid government are not what even the UN ventures to codify in terms of a "Right to Protect" but "the state". In America, it should be understood that Unconstitutional government is not valid government.

Comment on Syria by an Iraqi Christian

Shame on the US/UK - you never learn from your mistakes. As an Iraqi Christian, with family in Syria who fled Iraq after the consequences of your invasion, It's a case of deja vu all over again.

Please explain one thing to me, why is the West interested in dismantling secular states in the middle east and replacing them with Islamist-fascist states?

In Iraq, you replaced a secular state, where there was freedom of religion, and my people lived peacefully, with a theocratic Iranian backed government compounded by Wahabbi and Salafist elements that never existed in the country prior to your invasion. Now Iraqi Christians are murdered en masse and cannot worship freely - actually, all Iraqis are being murdered on en masse.

Do you not understand that your 'democracy' is not attainable in the middle east? Religious and tribal differences do not permit it. In Iraq, we were happy with the social freedoms under Saddam Hussein - even if it came at the sacrifice of political freedoms. Now, neither exist.

President Bashar Al-Assad welcomed Iraqi refugees with open hands, he gave free housing, education, food and medical care. He had to deal with the consequences of your erroneous decision in invading Iraq. This man and his wife, are not the monsters made out to be by the Western media and governments, funded by the Israeli, Qatar and Saudi masters.

In Syria, secularism is entrenched in the state, there is freedom of worship for Jews, Christians and all Islamic sects. Your governments try to divide and destabilise by labelling 'allawites', 'sunnis' and 'shiites'.

Why have your government and it's gulf allies exported Wahabbi and Salafi extremists to Syria, like you have done in Iraq? Look at what is happening to the Syrian Christian population, the oldest in the world. It's no surprise that Syrian Christians have formed militias to defend Assad - if he goes, they will be massacred, even worse than what has occurred in Iraq.

One day, you will receive appropriate blowback for all your actions in the middle east, for destroying secular states, the murder of countless of people by the importation of Islamist extremists - who will eventually turn on you.

Your governments are slaves to the gulf, to their petro-dollars, your governments don't even have the dignity of Assad or Saddam Hussein, since they're beholding to corporate interests and act upon their interests - not yours.

Shame on you for promoting backward Islamist fascism. The social freedoms under Bashar Assad and those that existed under Saddam Hussein are greater than any political freedom (which never existed anyway) after the US invasion of Iraq or the ultimate end game in Syria.

What is happening in Syria is not the work of the Syrian people, It is the work of imported Jihadi mercenaries by the gulf from the Maghreb (Libya, Morocco), Chechnya, Bosnia, etc. But keep trying to frame it as the Syrian people against the Gov - if that were the case, Assad would not be in power today but he retains the majority of the Syrian people's support.
