here's another interesting one from email -

Wow! I've seen this with the letters out of order, but this is the first time I've seen it with numbers. Good example of a Brain Study: If you can read this OUT LOUD you have a strong mind. And better than that: Alzheimer's is a long, long, way down the road before it ever gets anywhere near you!

I've seen this before in other forms, but it is still funny every time. I do not necessarily agree with the "we read whole words" explanation though. I was watching my own process as I read through it and I was deciphering each word and re-ordering the letters to make sense - in other wrods I was deciphering it letter by letter until the puzzle was solved. Yes, I recognize, and understand, each word, but I am not reading it as "whole words". I recall an education activist whom I heard on the radio, may have been Charlotte Iserbyt, comment that there was another word for people whose only method of understanding written text was "Whole Word" - illiterate.

Interesting.

After a couple sentences, I was doing the whole word thing with only a few pauses.

In any event, this stuff makes ebonics look literate.

Why Punctuation Matters

Punctuation is important. Without it, what you put into print could well be misunderstood by those who read it. It is a very simple rule of grammar. ;)

I work with a bunch of people who are disabled. One is retarded and does not understand things completely. He is 65 y/o and has the mentality of a six-year old.

Me, I have been ill and recovering from meningitis, in a nursing home for two years and then extended care (the place was a dump). Now, I live on my own and have had a nice payment from SSD so it will make things much easier for me.

I would like to go back to driving a truck, but the doctor says I should give it up. We shall see. All I need to do is to get my CDL back and I can go regional. Far easier than cross country. Besides, I need to come back here to get my meds. ;)

My delusions of driving for a living went up the chimney with my 2nd heart attack. Now I have another problem that would make it awkward as I have to stay near a commode or risk embarrassing myself (or wearing "Depends"). Hopefully that latter is temporary, but has been ongoing for the last ten months or so. The heart problems may be alleviated some by the all natural program I am on now but that is still a question mark as I am only 1 month into the full program. As for the meds - the side effects are worse than the disease (much of which is medical fad, and Big Pharma marketing schemes).

this so reminds me of a song we sang in high school. I found it on youtube. rests, or pauses, are used as punctuation in music.

A study group recently released its findings as to the best presidents of the United States of America.

Obama has been rated as the 4th best president ever:

Reagan and 9 others tied for first, 15 presidents tied for second, 18 tied for third, and Obama came in fourth.

Yes, pauses in music are very telling. ;-)

I work with a guy who is mentally retarded. He might look at this and think it was a lot of gibberish.

I can sure read, and out loud at that. Not so bad for having been sick with meningitis for so long. It's just that I have trouble recalling some things from the past. ;)

I have no doubt about the side effects from big pharma drugs. I have had some recently and had to quit taking an antibiotic and take some Benadryl to counteract the effects of it. Everything seems to be back to normal now, well, as much as normal can be anyway. LOL
