Remember when bikes were art? None of this Save The Planet crap, no helmets, knee-pads, or smugness. They were just fun. And cool. When did fun cease being cool? When did cool cease being fun? Al Gore must have been castrated by one of those shifters. Christ, they used to sell a doohickey to carry a baseball bat, attached to the rear of the frame, probably wouldn't pass muster with zero tolerance policy today.

I don't believe I've ever seen the bent handle bars, but I do remember that shifter and seat.
