True. However, the current psychotically evil PTB are afraid that if too many armed citizens figure out, finally, what they have really been up to then their control will evaporate. Of course there is the thought that they could also wind up going on a "Pitchfork Ride" as well.

The major drawback to an armed citizenry, from the viewpoint of would be dictators and mass murderers, is that they shoot back. Only once they become desperate though, but corner a man in defense of his family who has no other options left, and while in the end he may go down, he is going to do his best to take an "Honor Guard" along for the ride. The English learned that lesson at Bannockburn.

"It is in truth not for glory, nor riches, nor honours that we are fighting, but for freedom -- for that alone, which no honest man gives up but with life itself." ~ Declaration of Arbroath, April 6, 1320

"We hold these truths to be self evident ..." ~ Declaration of Independence, In Congress Assembled, July 4, 1776

The elites fear the citizenry of this country above all others. We don't quit.

"“Believe nothing merely because you have been told it. Do not believe what your teacher tells you merely out of respect for the teacher. But whatsoever, after due examination and analysis, you find to be kind, conducive to the good, the benefit, the welfare of all beings - that doctrine believe and cling to, and take it as your guide.” ~ Gautama Siddhartha — The Buddha

Any sufficiently advanced stupidity is indistinguishable from evil. ~ Unk (Paraphrase of Clarke's 3rd Law: "Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic.")

Actually, at the time the United States was founded, carrying a gun meant something closely akin to an IQ test. Back then, there were only muzzle loaders, which required a certain level of mental energy and physical competence ... and had to be reloaded in this challenging way after every shot. One shot at a time, with reloading (that took about half-a-minute) in-between. With muzzle loaders, nobody wandered into a schoolyard or a shopping center and started shooting people wildly.

But nowadays anyone, even an idiot or a Republican, can shoot a gun, not just repeatedly but perhaps ten or more times in rapid succession. Even people who would never be allowed into "a well-ordered militia" can kill a multitude in a cineplex with a modern firearm.
