According to NY Daily News, the woman was from Stamford, CT - mental health issues - was unarmed - was shot as she tried to surrender. Wow!!! Toddler with her is safe.

snip

The woman, a 34-year-old dental hygienist from Stamford who once lived in Brooklyn and who ABC News said has a history of “mental health issues,” had a child in the car with her who was not hurt, officials said.

"This appears to be an isolated incident," said Capitol Police Chief Kim Dine.

...At Constitution Ave. and Second St., she collided a Capitol Police car and then barreled into some barricades outside the Hart Senate Office building, Dine said.

Cornered, the woman came out of the car and was cut down by gunfire, officials said...

... Rep. Michael McCaul (R-Tex.), who said he was briefed by Homeland Security, told the Associated Press that it didn’t appear she was armed. “There was no return fire,” he said.

The child, who appears to be a toddler, was taken to a nearby hospital for a checkup, Dine said...

All that panic and abject terror set off by an unarmed woman in a car. These people have really whipped themselves into one big foamy froth of paranoia. Pretty fuckin' funny if you ask me.

I really hope this case will be thoroughly and fairly investigated. She was a mother for goodness sake - not a gangster - police and SS saw she had a toddler in the car with her - she was trying to surrender and she was shot ( some say 6-8 times???) dead. Unbelievable.

OK, it seems the perp was an 18 y/o girl (likely black) with a kid in the car who hit a barricade at the formerly white house (probably texting while driving). Apparently she fled the scene and ended up near the crapitol building where she was gunned down in cold blood by DeeCee's "finest". She was most likely unarmed. The only gunfire was the goob's. By tomorrow it will morph into several hundred of whatever enemy du jour.

Nope. It was apparently a 34 year old dental hygienist from Stamford, CT...

Connecticut woman shot dead outside U.S. Capitol had history of 'mental health issues'; police say there is 'nexus to terrorism'

Indeed!

I thought it was really bad form for the DC Metro Police Chief to refer to this tragedy as police officers and SS acting HEROICALLY.

Say what? An unarmed young mother (who either panicked after hitting the 1st barricade or who was mentally unstable right from the getgo) was shot to death as she was getting out of her car to surrender - and that's heroic?

Cathy Lanier, chief of the D.C. Metropolitan Police, said both Capitol Police and Secret Service officers involved in the chase "acted heroically."

"They did exactly what they were supposed to do," she said of the incident.

The Capitol Police were on furlough today, unpaid because of the govt shutdown, yet they showed up for work, unpaid, today and were there to stop this attack on the Congress. An intriguing question is, If the Capitol Police were officially off duty and unpaid today, will any of them get insurance benefits for injuries incurred today?

A Connecticut woman who tried to ram her way into the White House grounds was shot and killed Thursday as she fled from police in a high speed car chase through the heart of Washington DC that left at least one police officer injured. The woman has been identified by the New Haven Register as Miriam Carey. The 34- year-old dental hygienist from Stamford, who once lived in Brooklyn, had a one- year-old child in the car with her who was not hurt, officials said.

1. Shoonra, you seem flakier than usual the past few weeks. No attack on Syria got you depressed? Or is it that your egregiously outrageous fedgov pension check has been held back because of the shutdown?

Take a cold shower and wake up. This was a mentally ill, unarmed, young mother who posed zero threat to Congress. She was shot in cold blood, in front of her toddler, as she was getting out of her car to try to surrender.

The only threats she posed were to her toddler in the car and possibly to running over pedestrians if she lost control of her car while driving at a high speed. She should have been charged with reckless driving and child endangerment. She did not deserve to be shot and killed for either charge, imho.

I hope a thorough investigation is done on this needless tragedy and the officers involved should be put on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.

2. Let not your heart be heavy fretting and worrying about the DC police department's pay, Shoonra. I read that DC Mayor Vince Gray deemed all city departments - including police - essential services and they're getting paid through the city's budget.

If I had at least 6 cops around my truck with their pistols pointed at my head I'd just call it a day and go for whatever justice I could get in the courtroom.

I wonder if they withheld firing at the beginning of this video because she was black?? I'd damn sure expect to get the shit shot out of me if I gunned the vehicle like she did in the video.

I'd shoot her to prevent innocent people from being killed, that vid of her driving insanely is damaging to her cause. I have no idea what was done or said at the scene of the arrest when she was stopped, but it was mentioned above she was surrendering. If that's evident in any way then the cops need to be fitted for orange jumpers. And yes, I get your point about if she were a White guy. He would have assassinated for the speeding charge.

Charlie Rangel is such an a*shat. Was Miriam Carey trying to register for Obamacare in person because the gov't online system was down, Charlie?

Give me a friggin' break.

We don't know the full story about why Miriam Carey went to DC yet. There are some reports in media that she had mental issues. Her photos show her to be an attractive middle class looking young Mom.

But for Charlie Rangel to suggest that this tragedy happened because of "people's" frustration with the Republicans is beyond reprehensible.

Hey, Chrlie, I'm elated with joy with the gov't shut down. And I'm not in the minority of Americans who are sick and tired with Big Gov't and waste of taxpayer $ every which way.
