According to NY Daily News, the woman was from Stamford, CT - mental health issues - was unarmed - was shot as she tried to surrender. Wow!!! Toddler with her is safe.

The woman, a 34-year-old dental hygienist from Stamford who once lived in Brooklyn and who ABC News said has a history of “mental health issues,” had a child in the car with her who was not hurt, officials said.

"This appears to be an isolated incident," said Capitol Police Chief Kim Dine.

...At Constitution Ave. and Second St., she collided a Capitol Police car and then barreled into some barricades outside the Hart Senate Office building, Dine said.

Cornered, the woman came out of the car and was cut down by gunfire, officials said...

... Rep. Michael McCaul (R-Tex.), who said he was briefed by Homeland Security, told the Associated Press that it didn’t appear she was armed. “There was no return fire,” he said.

The child, who appears to be a toddler, was taken to a nearby hospital for a checkup, Dine said...
