Dulles Brothers:

In the first half of Sunday's program, John B. Wells was joined by Stephen Kizner, award-winning foreign correspondent, for a discussion on the extraordinary lives of John Foster Dulles and Allen Dulles, two immensely powerful brothers who led the US into a series of foreign adventures which are still shaking the world today. He explained that the brothers commanded tremendous power because John Foster Dulles, as Secretary of State, would use his position to depict various foreign regimes as hostile to America while Allen Dulles, directing the CIA, would simultaneous work on covertly engineering the downfall of these 'rogue' states. According to Kizner, this methodology proved successful in causing regime changes in Guatemala and Iran as well as spawning the United States' entrance into the Vietnam War.

Kizner suggested that the brothers' proclivity for pushing America to intervene in global affairs was influenced by two aspects of their early life. Being sons of a preacher, he said, the boys were taught that "good people have to go out into the world and crush evil." Additionally, Kizner noted their decades of employment with the law firm Sullivan & Cromwell, which represented the foreign interests of American multinational corporations. As such, he surmised that "they came to think the interests of the American corporations were the interests of the United States." Ultimately, however, Kizner observed that this intervention on behalf of short term economic goals led to a "terrible long term effect" on America's relationships with various nations around the world in the modern era.

Kokesh Case:

In the latter half, Jeffrey Phillips and Anthony Antonello talked about the case of Adam Kokesh, an Iraq War veteran who was arrested for posting a video of himself loading a shotgun at the Freedom Plaza in Washington D.C. Phillips detailed how Kokesh had previously been arrested several times at political protests, culminating in his July 4th demonstration of civil disobedience. For the crime of openly carrying a firearm in Washington D.C., Kokesh was arrested, denied bail, and has been held for the last 97 days, including over 80 days in solitary confinement. "It's become apparent that it's something personal," Phillips observed, "they don't like his methods and they're definitely trying to suppress him."

Reflecting on the current state of affairs in the United States, Antonello lamented that "tyranny has come to America." He lauded Kokesh for sacrificing his own freedom in order to alert his fellow citizens that "this government has been hijacked by people who do not have the best interests of Americans or humanity in mind." He noted that Kokesh has declared that he will not accept a plea bargain for the charges against him and plans to "put it in the hands of jury nullification" in the hopes that his peers will disagree with the nature of the laws he is accused of breaking. Should Kokesh be found guilty, however, he faces five to ten years in prison for his protest.

Poster Comment:

"this government has been hijacked by people who do not have the best interests of Americans or humanity in mind."

Who could the hijackers be? Antonello didn't say; Noory didn't ask> I "wonder" why?

More C2C recap

Property Issues:

In the first half of Tuesday's show, rancher, realtor, and author Reid Lance Rosenthal talked about Agenda 21 anti-private property edicts, and government encroachment on freedoms. Agenda 21 got its start at a conference of UN environmental organizations in 1992, and over the years it's become "a 40 chapter ever-evolving bible of globalism," obliterating the rights of sovereign nations, and eliminating personal liberties for the good of the collective, he remarked. Under the guise of such terms as sustainable development, and viable communities, the Agenda seeks to increasingly control human activity, Rosenthal suggested. Agenda 21 promotes the concept of "regionalism," pushing for everyone to live in compact urban areas, and casts a negative light on suburbs and rural areas, he continued.

Governmental property confiscation is up 100 fold in the last 10 years, and "the heyday of property seizures by government for political and fiscal reasons is just beginning," he warned. Agenda 21 has come to Brazil in full force, and there's been more than 4,000 people displaced with their homes demolished, and troops sporting a UN logo were involved in the re-locations, Rosenthal reported. Eminent domain, the right of a government to take a property from a private landowner "for the public good," is a growing problem, with 13 million acres in the US being targeted for "federalization," he added. Rosenthal was also critical of the push for alternative energy in the US, characterizing it as a "cloak of crony capitalism" in which most of its green jobs created go overseas, and further, the industry is highly subsidized, and can't stand on its own.

Food Imperialism:

In the latter half, attorney Scott Tips, the General Counsel for the National Health Federation, the world's oldest health-freedom organization for consumers, discussed how corporations are attempting to dominate markets though global food imperialism, and deny the public access to vitamins and supplements. Big agriculture and 'big pharma' are "dumbing down" the food supply and filling it with toxins, "so they're basically poisoning us and devitalizing the foods," he said. Codex Alimentarius, created 50 years ago, to establish international guidelines and standards for foods and supplements has been pushing to lower the amount of recommended daily intakes of vitamins as well as control or restrict health supplements. FDA bureaucrats who attend the Codex meetings don't represent the American consumer but rather big business, and the US is connected to their rulings via various trade agreements, he detailed.

Statistics show that supplements are generally quite safe, he cited, much more so than hospitals, and pharmaceutical drugs, for instance. People like Senator Dick Durbin, who is pushing a bill to control supplements as a way to protect the consumer, is actually more interested in protecting the existing big business, Tips opined. The answer isn't to build up more government powers-- this doesn't secure freedom, he continued. His organization has looked into such problems as excessive vaccinations, water fluoridation, over-farming reducing nutrients, and GMO labeling, and the common denominator in all of them is that they serve to lower fertility rates. Blast from the Past:

The Psychology of Evil & Heroism:

In the middle two hours, renowned social psychologist and creator of the 1971 Stanford Prison Experiment, Philip Zimbardo, discussed this landmark study which saw ordinary college students transformed into either sadistic guards or emotionally broken prisoners. He explained that the goal of the experiment was to understand how "social situational context" plays a profound and underestimated role in influencing behavior. To that end, he noted that the students who played guards in the study were largely anti-war activists that, at first, didn't even want to adopt the authoritarian role. However, he observed, upon donning their uniform and being surrounded by fellow 'guards,' they quickly began demonstrating their power in "creatively evil ways," which led him to end the study early.

Regarding his latest research, which looks at the psychology of heroism, Zimbardo defined a hero as "someone who takes action on behalf of someone in need or defends a moral cause." He stressed that heroism differs from altruism because it has the potential for "high cost or risk." It is this steep price which prevents many people from becoming heroes, but Zimbardo suggested that there are smaller steps which can bring out the "inner hero" in anyone. For example, he said that heroes are "socio-centric," noticing other people in need and offering help. Therefore, a potential hero does not necessarily need to save someone from danger, but can simply be observant and commit a small act of kindness, such as a offering compliment. According to Zimbardo, this tactic changes the dynamics of a social situation into a more positive environment, because the recipient feels "special and respected."

In the final hour of the program, science journalist, Elizabeth Svoboda, continued the discussion of heroism and how researchers are now applying the lens of science to study it for the first time. According to case studies on heroes, she said, they often have "training that is appropriate to the situation," such as a skydiving instructor who used his years of experience to find a way to save his tandem partner when both of their parachutes failed. On a biological level, Svoboda indicated that "in some ways, our brains might actually be wired for a certain kind of selflessness." She cited a neurological study which showed pleasure centers in the brain lighting up when people decided to donate to charity. While she echoed Zimbardo's thoughts on altruism versus heroism, Svoboda argued that a "really dedicated altruist" who commits their life to a specific cause qualifies them as a hero.

Thanks for the recap.

“The most dangerous man to any government is the man who is able to think things out... without regard to the prevailing superstitions and taboos. Almost inevitably he comes to the conclusion that the government he lives under is dishonest, insane, intolerable.” ~ H. L. Mencken
