How many times do you go to the grocery store a week?

Once? A couple times? Maybe more? The point is we ALL spend a good chunk of our time shopping for groceries.

Do you want to learn two super easy tips that can help you lose up to 8% body fat in just three months? It might not seem like it yet, but it has everything to do with the grocery store.

Okay. So, if you're anything like me, you've probably struggled with weight and more than likely tried a few diets in your lifetime. You name it, I've tried it; Atkins, the Mediterranean, a points-based diet, and countless others. And to be honest, they were all incredibly hard to maintain.

I would always fall back into unhealthy eating habits... That is until I figured out two simple shopping tips that turned everything around.

Are you hungry to hear them? Grocery humor goes a long way.

Pay attention.

Shopping Tip #1

Don't go grocery shopping when you're hungry.

Sounds obvious right? But you’d be surprised by how many people don’t adhere to this rule, myself included. I learned this tip the hard way as I would stick to healthy eating for a month or two, and then find myself at a grocery store on an empty stomach… and when you are hungry EVERYTHING looks delicious.

NEVER shop hungry. Eat a healthy meal BEFORE you go shopping so you are not tempted to overload on junk food and processed foods that you may end up regretting later.

Shopping Tip #2

I CANNOT stress the IMPORTANCE of this tip enough!

Do your best to forget the aisles of the grocery store even exist.

Don't go near them! They're loaded with overly processed, unnatural foods that are chemically enhanced with artificial flavors, preservatives, and sugars. Ready to lose your appetite?

That can of soup may seem like a healthier alternative to a cheeseburger, but just one can from a leading soup company has twice the amount of sodium than a cheeseburger from a fast-food chain.

These “mid-store” foods have little-to-no nutritious benefit and an incredibly high glycemic index which will cause that dangerous blood sugar spike after your meal.

So how do you avoid these processed foods?

The key is to shop on the edges of the store!

Find the natural, whole foods like fruits, vegetables, meats, whole grains, and dairy- like Greek yogurt and cottage cheeses.

You can find all of these natural whole foods around the edges of your local grocery store.

This strategy will give you more than enough ingredients to make simple and amazing dishes full of these natural and healthy foods your body will love:

-Salmon (or other lean fish) on fresh corn salsa.

-Grass-fed beef and grilled artichoke.

-Lean-turkey chili with some cayenne pepper to really boost that metabolism.

Just because these foods are all-natural, doesn't mean they aren't bursting with flavor.

That's it. The shortest what-to-do while you're shopping list ever, right? Next time you go to your local grocery store, following these two simple tips will bring out the best in you, and help keep the worst off!

I go because that is where I have to get food. I wish I had a garden, but I live in an apartment, and that is out of the question. It's still better than the nursing home I spent two years in, or the extended care facility for six months. That place was a dump. The toilets were overflowing and the food was lousy. ;)

Just guessing, but I'd say about ten times, give or take.

-Salmon (or other lean fish) on fresh corn salsa.

Thanks to Fukushima Pacific Seafood is off the menu - unless you are willing to take a Geiger Counter along. Commercial Fishermen in Alaska are complaining because the Salmon catch is drastically down. And, from a different report, Salmon caught off the Canadian Coast are looking decidedly unhealthy. (As well Starfish along the North Pacific coast are literally turning into goo.)

Since radiation dosage is cumulative then even if the fish is allegedly within "safe" measurements then over time you will still accumulate an unhealthy dose.

And any yellow corn, not labeled organic and GMO Project Verified, is likely contaminated with GMO genes as, last number I had, about 85% of ALL Yellow Corn grown commercially is GMO (and the number is higher for Soy - which has other health hazards).

And the safest way to shop is buy organic - preferably certified with something other than "USDA Faux Organic". Oregon Tilth is reliable, and their standards are high.

I get boneless, skinless North Atlantic salmon from Costco. Great stuff.

I don't want to rain on your parade as I like Salmon as well, BUT all commercially available Atlantic Salmon in the US is Farmed. There has not been a commercial fishery for Wild Atlantic Salmon for some time now. Some are raised in commercial pens along the coast of British Columbia, and food used to raise them is the typical commercial schlock along with chemicals to cause the flesh to be the "right color". Wild Salmon come by the red-pink coloring from eating crustaceans. The farmed fish from being fed chemicals. The standards are even lower in other countries e.g., China where the feed may include human fecal matter.

For over 3 decades, I have had simple rule of low cost grocery shopping:

Go with a full stomach, AND a full bladder.

I go to the store 1 to 2 times per week. I spend under 10 minutes at a time there.

Obama has been rated as the 4th best president ever:

Reagan and 9 others tied for first, 15 presidents tied for second, 18 tied for third, and Obama came in fourth.

I go every two to three days, for fresh fruits/veggies, and I've also got a small refrigerator.

yep. salmon is no longer healthful. you're better off eating grass fed beef and free range chicken.

I like Salmon as well

I was at a truck stop in Wisconsin, and they had a poached salmon on the food bar. It was really great. You could eat everything, including the bones. ;)

every day. I work in grocery stores.

There was an amusement park in Chicago called Riverview. It was overrun with blacks. They closed it and turned the property into an industrial park. ;)

Once a week, usually Friday. My bank is next to the store, which is on my way home. So I get some money at the bank then exchange it for food at the store.

And salmon is awesome. Only 2 fish I like are tuna and salmon. Publix sells wild Alaskan fillets. Yum.
