BEIJING, Oct. 15 (Xinhuanet) -- China says that it has allocated five billion yuan, thats over 800 million US dollars, for curbing air pollution in six provincial regions in northern China.
The list includes Beijing and Tianjin, the provinces of Hebei, Shanxi and Shandong, as well as the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. The funds are merit-based. These regions wont get the money until receiving an assessment of their efforts next year.
Reduction of PM 2.5, a key indicator of air quality, will be taken into account. Other benchmarks include initial pollution reduction targets and investments in pollution treatment.
