So why is it that the US constitution insists upon an establishment of a postal service but the US postal service refuses to acknowledge that it is a part of the government.

Secure mail is a cornerstone to government. Thats why postal service is always government ran. Others may compete but "the man" has to make sure your summons to show up in court got to you.

Some how some way the US postal service has been mislead and in turn has mislead a nation. The postal service is not for profit. I REPEAT THE US POSTAL SERVICE IS NOT A FOR PROFIT CORPORATION. They won't be franchising any time soon. They are beholdent to us as tax payers. They are reimbursed for what ever our stamps fail to pay. And Our stamps pay for darn near everything but for the growing salaries on the 1% top. You know the assistant post master general can't skip his yearly Antarctic cruise. (sarc)

Seriously though, these people are in charge of your passports, birth certificates, and other major legal details and they want to enjoy the welfare rights of being a government operation and the lucrative profit of being a private corporation.

How the hell did we allow the US postal service to get away with the BS lie that they operate independently of the US government? The government makes the laws about the mail. The post master general is an appointed position. It may not be part of the executive branch but that does not divorce from the federal government. It does not make it its own company. We will never buy stock in the post office because we already own that!!!!

How do we as a society get the postal people to realize that they are government run and not an NGO?

Try thinking of the USPS as UPS on fedgov welfare; that'll clear things up.

“The most dangerous man to any government is the man who is able to think things out... without regard to the prevailing superstitions and taboos. Almost inevitably he comes to the conclusion that the government he lives under is dishonest, insane, intolerable.” ~ H. L. Mencken

Your point is quite valid.

But isn't this like looking at the Titanic as it sits at the bottom of the ocean and complaining that the port holes have busted windows? hehe... :)

An apt metaphor I think. And yet if we wanna make that boat float those port holes are gonna have to be shored up .

The mid section reconnected.

The other loose holes patched.

And if these things are not done then it shall remain sank at the bottom of the ocean.

Back on the track of government. Here in my small town the city council has gotten a superfluous hotel tax to go directly to the chamber of commerce. This has gone on for a number of years and is still being protested by a minority of locals because the local chamber of commerce is a private business club and not a government entity in any way shape or form... so why it gets tax money to distribute as it sees fit is ....ludicrous no? BUt that is our city council... here on the bottom of the rung. I encourage others to tend to their own city councils often that they may control them so that they do not end up like my own city council.

Still working on making them accountable....

Maybe thats the real cruxx of the problem... Accountability .

Give Congress the same demographics as the postal service.

"If an angry bigot assumes this bountiful cause of Abolition, and comes to me with his last news from Barbados, why should I not say to him, 'Go love thy infant; love thy wood-chopper: be good-natured and modest; have that grace; and never varnish your hard, uncharitable ambition with this incredible tenderness for black folk a thousand miles off. Thy love afar is spite at home.'"
-- Ralph Waldo Emerson, Self-Reliance

I think we can work some with that idea. How about a Congress with one Representative per Zip Code instead of gerrymandered districts? Then poor Americans would likely have a lot more realistic representation than the utter disconnect they've been getting from upper-income bracketeer dominance.

James Bovard's excellent book LOST RIGHTS':THE DESTRUCTION OF AMERICAN LIBERTY has a chapter on the postal service & its history. highly recommend the book. usps is a fraudulent monpoly which private sector can do much better at. case in point, the 10 yr old who was charged wth fed crimes for sending Christmas cards for his neighbors.

"Even to the death fight for truth, and the LORD your God will battle for you". Sirach 4:28
