Ron Paul See other Ron Paul Articles Title: Rand Paul Up Close Rand Paul Up Close Who is the real Rand Paul? Sen. Paul's mission of smaller government is gaining traction across the country and challenging the status quo in Washington and the libertarian is ascending rapidly on the national stage. Newsmax magazine's November cover story "Rand Paul Up Close" asks the question: Is Paul ready for the prime-time role of leading a chaotic Republican Party as it attempts to retake the Senate and White House in 2016? Is a presidential bid next for the Kentucky Republican? And, can he win? "I think there's never been a better time for someone who believes in a strictly limited government," Paul tells Newsmax. The cover story gives the behind-the-scenes account of how Paul effectively won the national debate over whether the president should authorize bombing raids over Syria. It also explores the senator's effort to reduce the mandatory minimum prison sentences that are clogging the nation's jails, and his call for cutting foreign aid to "countries who burn our flag." As one commentator noted, Paul has "become this year's most compelling and prescient political actor." The in-depth look at a rising GOP star was written by Matt Welch, editor in chief of Reason magazine. The Newsmax feature also offers a look at the growing caucus of libertarian-leaning Republicans, a poll showing that America may be moving in a more libertarian direction, and the role that Paul's famous father, former U.S. representative and presidential candidate Ron, has played in shaping his son's politics This issue of Newsmax magazine is hot off the presses. Newsmax is probably still deciding whether Rand will embrace the magazine's neocon agenda. Choosing between Rand and most other Republicans is like choosing whether to drink raw sewage or drink filtered sewage with enough chlorine/iodine to kill most of the pathogens. I'll drink the latter if I must, but I'll probably have a hard time keeping it down. Rand's father Ron in comparison would have been like drinking distilled water in the analogy. But alas it will not be. John Howard says: There are 4 schools of economics: Democrats don't mind war as long as they can have big government. Republicans don't mind big government as long as they can have war. All any American needs to know about Rand Paul is readily available, when they view Rands nice photo at the Whining Wall with his little Beanie. If anyone needs to consider anything else, there is no hope for you.
