He likened wizardry to philosophy, as both practices center on the pursuit of wisdom. "A wizard is generally considered to be somebody who knows stuff other people don't know and who provides that as a service," Zell said. Throughout history wizards have been teachers, mentors and founders of various schools of thought, he added, noting that wizards also penned the first books on mathematics, astronomy, architecture and medicine. Magic and science are essentially the same, Oberon continued, pointing to quantum physics as an example of this fusion. He claimed wizards are able to control coincidence, shape reality and change destiny simply by putting their focus into the patterns they wish to alter. According to Zell, a legendary sea monster known as the Kraken was a real beast and related to contemporary giant squids but much largerabout the size of a bus. He suggested the Loch Ness Monster might be an enormous aquatic slug, which could explain why researchers have never found skeletal remains of the creature. Zell commented on the Thunderbird mystery, noting that the only bird still in existence capable of carrying off a small child is the Lammergeyer found in the Carpathian mountains. He further theorized that Thunderbirds could be animals from parallel universes, where extinctions of pterodactyls and giant prehistoric birds never happened. Zell briefly touched on his expedition to find mermaids and research which led to the creation of living unicorns. He also spoke about the Garden of Eden, which he said was an actual place now underwater in the Arabian Gulf, as well as the story of Atlantis, which he indicated was likely based on the volcanic destruction of Thera, an island north of Crete. Unforgettable Stories: During Open Lines, George offered a special line for callers who wanted to share their unforgettable stories. Mike in Arkansas recalled an unusual occurrence that happened when he was 14 years old and staying over at his uncle's apartment. According to Mike, after falling asleep in his bed he awoke later that night to find himself downstairs standing outside of the front door. Mike remembered finding the door locked, walking to his uncle's car, then trying the door again and discovering it was unlocked. Robin from Redding, California, said she'll never forget observing an inexplicable black line in the sky over her city. It went on as far as one could see and was connected to a plane and what appeared to be a chemtrail, she noted, adding that her granddaughter also saw the bizarre aerial anomaly before it mysteriously vanished from view. Rob in Provo, Utah, shared a ghostly experience he had during his time as a Mormon missionary in rural Idaho. He and his companion were performing a service for a ghost hunter who showed them some rather creepy photos of purported paranormal phenomena, Rob explained. Upon returning to their apartment the two immediately felt something was not right. The kitchen light faded on and off then cast a blue light, disembodied growls and footsteps could be heard from the hallway, and the entire floor and house shook, Rob said. He believes whatever was in their house was the same thing in the photos they were shown. He believes whatever was in their house was the same thing in the photos they were shown. In the first half of Wednesday's show, WND's Washington senior reporter, Michael Maloof, talked about the vulnerability of America's power grid and infrastructures, and how they could be damaged by a solar flare as well as an EMP or cyber attack. The utilities have been fooling themselves in thinking they can handle such events, with today's national power grid drill an example of them remaining in denial, he commented. "But if you have an EMP (electromagnetic pulse) over a wide geographical area, there's no way they're going to be able to control that" and it will certainly take months and years to make repairs, and urban centers could be wiped out, he warned. Such effects could also be seen from a solar flare if we take a direct hit, he added. NASA estimates if the US takes a direct hit it will cost upwards of $2 trillion in the first year, and 4-10 years to recover, with some 160 million lives affected, he reported. People will basically die of starvation and diseases simply because critical life-sustaining infrastructures depend on the grid to run, he continued. Maloof cited the need for congressional action to fund the strengthening and protection of the grid. The bipartisan EMP Caucus in the House of Representatives is one such effort in this direction. Psychopaths: In the latter half, James Fallon, an award-winning neuroscientist at the University of California, Irvine, told about his shocking discovery that his brainscan perfectly matched a pattern hed found in the brains of serial killers. Specifically, the pattern shows a lesion-type area in the limbic system, which involves emotional regulation and empathy. While a person with this pattern wouldn't necessarily be a psychopath, they would typically show impulsivity, and unusual or poorly modulated emotions, he explained. For Fallon, this played out as hypomania, thrill-seeking, and risk taking behaviors, though he always felt he could regulate his behavior, and not act out on the most negative impulses. Intriguingly, he argued that some of the US presidents such as FDR, JFK, and Reagan scored high in psychopathic traits that actually can be desirable to have in a leadership position, such as high social energy, fearlessness, and dominance. About 1-2% of people have a degree of psychopathy, with about 10% of the population showing borderline traits. When this plays out as violence, these people often end up in jail, though some of the smarter psychopaths, such as certain serial killers, are able to hide their behaviors and attitudes, and evade capture, Fallon detailed. Some killers go through long cycles in which they don't act out, but when violent urges build up they can suddenly strike, he noted. Ancient Mysteries: In the latter half, best-selling author Erich von Daniken spoke about his seminal research into the ancient alien hypothesis. He also addressed his latest work on mysterious underground complexes, geometrically aligned stone circles, and the pyramids of Egypt, and their possible relationship to ancient ET builders. Aliens have visited Earth at least three times in the past, every 3,500 4,000 years, he said. The ancient Greek historian Herodotus studied early Egyptian texts, and learned that contacts with the 'gods' may have started as far back as 14,000 years ago, von Daniken noted. He believes the ETs are about 500 years ahead of us in technology, and genetically manipulated early hominids to became homo sapiens. He cited the mystery of carved rocks on the Mediterranean island of Malta that contain parallel lines running together, which are also seen in other parts of the Mediterranean region. These carvings are at least 10,000 years old, and continue to puzzle archaeologists, he commented. Von Daniken also talked about an ancient temple in Abydos, Egypt which used 70 ton blocks precisely fitting together, a technology that was not repeated by subsequent temple builders at Abydos. Well, everyone except HW. The most dangerous man to any government is the man who is able to think things out... without regard to the prevailing superstitions and taboos. Almost inevitably he comes to the conclusion that the government he lives under is dishonest, insane, intolerable. ~ H. L. Mencken
