Times of Israel Just when we thought we’d seen about every kind of flash mob there is, we were treated last week to something we thought we’d never see (at least not in public): a flash orgasm. Improv Everywhere, a New York-based prank collective, reenacted the memorable fake orgasm scene in the 1989 romcom classic “When Harry Met Sally,” written by the late Nora Ephron and directed by Rob Reiner. In the scene, Sally (Meg Ryan) fakes an orgasm while enjoying pastrami and turkey sandwiches with Harry (Billy Crystal) at Katz’s Deli on the Lower East Side. Harry tells Sally he is sure a woman has never faked an orgasm while having sex with him. “Most women at one time or another have faked it,” Sally says.
“You don’t think I can tell the difference? Get outta here,” Harry answers. Then, as we all recall, Sally, aiming to prove her point, proceeds to loudly and highly dramatically fake a one-and-a-quarter-minute-long orgasm right there in the middle of the crowded restaurant. In the movie, it was just one woman faking an orgasm. But this being a flashmob, it was 20 actresses staging sexual pleasure at Katz’s. The best part of the gag was that no one at the deli – the owners, managers, workers and customers — had been tipped off ahead of time. The reaction we see from them is completely genuine…even if the orgasms are not.
