PressTV: Iranian Oil Minister Bijan Namdar Zanganeh says the Islamic Republic has begun talks with leading Western energy companies to attract them back to the country.

In an interview with the Financial Times on Tuesday, Zanganeh said the Iranian Oil Ministry is in talks with European energy firms and “indirectly” with US groups to invite them back to Iran in case of a possible removal of US-led illegal sanctions against Iran’s energy sector.

The Iranian minister further said the energy companies such as France’s Total, Royal Dutch Shell, Italy’s Eni and Norway’s Statoil are among those he is seeking to bring back to Iran’s energy sector, according to the report.

The Iranian minister made the remarks just two days after Tehran and the Sextet of world powers -- the US, Britain, Russia, China, France and Germany -- inked an interim deal in Geneva, Switzerland, on November 24 to pave the way for the full resolution of the West’s decade-old dispute with Tehran over its nuclear energy program.

In exchange for Tehran’s confidence-building bid to limit certain aspects of its nuclear activities, the six countries agreed to lift some of the existing sanctions against the Islamic Republic.

Zanganeh further told the daily that he did not expect the recently-sealed deal to have any immediate impact on the country’s exports, saying, “It (the deal) sends a positive signal to start negotiations.”

Iran’s share of South Pars, the world’s largest gas field, constitutes a major attraction for European oil and gas firms.

In early November the chief executive of Total, Christophe de Margerie, said the company will “definitely” go back to Iran “when and if the sanctions are lifted.”

Shell’s outgoing chief executive, Peter Voser, also said last month that the Islamic Republic possesses “vast resources” of oil and gas.

Keep them out Nov 28, 2013 1:34 AMIf I were president of a country that experienced barbaric genocidal sanctions by the West & these oil & other companies bowed down to these criminals, allowed these sanctions to continue & took part in them, I would not allow anyone of them into my country. If they want to buy oil or anything else, I will sell it to them at market value price but will never accept any US dollar or Euro. Let them barter or trade with gold or with Iranian currency, the rial. Keep them all out.

who needs greedy hands? Nov 27, 2013 10:53 PMWhy invite those greedy hands back in?Iran has lots of smart engineers and technicians busy developing the Iranian oil industry and who will not be paid to be spies and saboteurs. The Western oil industry (Cheney, Bush) had a lot do do with the invasion of Iraq.

bamba Nov 27, 2013 10:3 PMWhy the big hurry to let them back in. He should show some respect for the talented Iranian technicians and engineers who kept the industry going, and made great advances, during the dark days of sanctions. Besides he should be very picky about the ones they let back in, because they can easily sabotage your resource depriving you of 70[[]%] of its value. +11

eleni Nov 27, 2013 9:36 PMI would not invite companies of aggressive colonizing countries with a poor record for the environment in and call it a win win. Bad down the road. I am not aware of downside to Norway or Italy on this matter.+6

Smart move on the part of Iran. Western big oil has the most advanced oil production technology and would welcome an opportunity to add to its reserves so it might counter the lobbying of Israel agents to keep sanctions on. It's politicians who imposed sanctions to curry favor with Israel whose dual agents run an unmatchable slick organization to elect members of Congress and of course the duals in Congress openly display a loyalty to Israel.
