At height of Korean war, Christmas time, Hope and troupe were leaving Travis AFB in CA for Korea.

Due to a mechanical problem of their military aircraft, there would be a four hour delay for departure to Hawaii.

Hope said spread the word, there will be an impromptu show in base theater in two hours. By word of mouth, in two hours the theater was way beyond fire marshal allowed capacity. There was no vacant space available.

At the end there was not a dry eye in the place. Most of us were just kids that wanted only to go home.

That was not to be.
