Merry Christmas everyone.

Merry Christmas everyone.

Americans who have no experience with, or knowledge of, tyranny believe that only terrorists will experience the unchecked power of the state. They will believe this until it happens to them, or their children, or their friends.

Of course the day means different things to different people. In Japan it's strictly a secular holiday but in the US an unspoken fact is that it's a mercantile holiday.

Yesterday I visited a local store owned by an immigrant from Belarus I believe, who speaks in Yiddish and English combined.

The store was packed and the registers were ringing, and as I passed the owner I heard him absent mindedly singing off key in his guttural accent, "Do you hear vhat I hear vhat I hear vhat I hear...."

Wishing y'all a merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year but more than anything good health !

"A wise and frugal Government, which shall restrain men from injuring one another, which shall leave them otherwise free to regulate their own pursuits of industry and improvement, and shall not take from the mouth of labor the bread it has earned. This is the sum of good government, and this is necessary to close the circlue of our felicities.

Thomas Jefferson

Christmas (almost) in Krautland.

Drawing the last few puff off the butt end of a smoke in front of my grandfather’s house on a misty cold evening last week, I saw a white Porsche whistle down the Bahnhofstrasse over the wet asphalt stinging my face with freezing spray. I looked up the foggy road where the tanks of the 99th Infantry Division had charged in from the same direction long ago, and the bells of the little church where my folks were married after the war began to sound. Drizzle had turned to snow, and the flakes dissolved as they hit the pavement. Light from the church windows across the road lit the damp air, and just then I heard the choir practice warming up Christmas carols. It was like the horror of the last grubby century had melted away. The voices of the choir took me to another time entirely.

The carols sounded kinda like this:

"The Bells Never Ring so Sweet” (as they do on Christmas day.)

Merry Christmas, all.

Know guns, know safety, know liberty. No guns, no safety, no liberty.

Do you remember the traveling child tent show revivalist-turned actor Marjoe Gortner? "He gained notoriety in the 1970s when he starred in Marjoe, an Oscar-winning behind-the-scenes documentary about the lucrative business of Pentecostal preaching."__(wiki)

He revealed how hucksters (that resembled Lawrence Welk's clean living talent) used to pick up dope, liquor and women between towns and as they neared their next appointment with G_d and a few hundred of his closest friends, they'd drop the girls and the goodies off at a motel outside of town.

After G_d made his appearance and the show ended, the preachers would split the donated cash and cigarettes that were tossed in the sinner's quit can, pick up the girls and refreshments and head on to the next altruistic salvation destination.

Lawrence Welk certainly knew that image was everything, as did Marjoe Gortner. Now, let's think about that for a moment....
