And the U.S. Launched 201 Out of the 248 Armed Conflicts Since the End of WWII

The June 2014 issue of the American Journal of Public Health notes (free PDF here; hat tip David Swanson):

Around 90% of all deaths in war are civilians:

“The proportion of civilian deaths and the methods for classifying deaths as civilian are debated, but civilian war deaths constitute 85% to 90% of casualties caused by war, with about 10 civilians dying for every combatant killed in battle.”

Swanson notes: “A top defense of war is that it must be used to prevent something worse, called genocide. Not only does militarism generate genocide rather than preventing it, but the distinction between war and genocide is a very fine one at best.”

The U.S. launched 201 out of the 248 armed conflicts since the end of WWII:

“Since the end of World War II, there have been 248 armed conflicts in 153 locations around the world. The United States launched 201 overseas military operations between the end of World War II and 2001, and since then, others, including Afghanistan and Iraq ….”

U.S. military spending dwarfs all other countries:

“The United States is responsible for 41% of the world’s total military spending. The next largest in spending are China, accounting for 8.2%; Russia, 4.1%; and the United Kingdom and France, both 3.6%. . . . If all military . . . costs are included, annual [US] spending amounts to $1 trillion . . . . According to the DOD fiscal year 2012 base structure report, ‘The DOD manages global property of more than 555,000 facilities at more than 5,000 sites, covering more than 28 million acres.’ The United States maintains 700 to 1000 military bases or sites in more than 100 countries. . . .”

excellent commentary at site - the first -

When the idiots whine that their schools/infrastructure are collapsing:

"Every gun that is made, every warship launched, every rocket fired signifies, in the final sense, a theft from those who hunger and are not fed, those who are cold and not clothed. This world in arms is not spending money alone. It is spending the sweat of its laborers, the genius of its scientists, the hopes of its children. This is not a way of life at all in any true sense. Under the cloud of threatening war, it is humanity hanging from a cross of iron." -- Dwight D. Eisenhower

"Trade with all, alliances with none" - Thomas Jefferson

Before the existence of private central banking, there was no such thing as a world war.

Anyone care to list the wars prevented by this country???

In particular, WWIII has been held in abeyance since 1945.

It is coming, we have only to look at present affairs in Asia.

There were but twenty years of "peace" between WWI and WWII. Since WWII we have had seventy years of "peace". The killing never stops, it is but the magnitude of killing that changes.

WWIII is yet to come, and come it will.

I can't think of one, but there's a snappy little tune that'll make the soldiers step lively on the way to their deaths:

Mine eyes have seen the glory of the coming of the Lord;

He is trampling out the vintage where the grapes of wrath are stored

He hath loosed the fateful lightning of His terrible swift sword:

His truth is marching on.

Jack Kennedy was instrumental in helping prevent what could have been an unfortunate dust-up in the Caribbean.

Other than that, we've prevented squat, and initiated plenty of death and destruction around the globe.

This time, military deaths will be insignificant.

Civilians will die by the hundreds of millions, that is hundreds of millions.

In my time, long ago, we were told, we would kill 300,000 in three minutes. That is 300,000 civilians. Consider what is available now. The soldiers will be hiding in underground bunkers, where will you and I be????

There is one reason why western Europe is hanging in there with us.

After WWII, Stalin and Kruscheve both wanted to march to the English Channel. There was but one deterrent, that was the US and the US alone.

Recent history and geo/politics belies a broad condemnation of this country.

War makers? Yes, we are.

What was the alternative in the past? What is the alternative in the future?

After our first exposure of plans of mass killing of civilians, there was no conversation, nothing, just dead silence. The subject was never discussed.

The people back home voted for more war. We resist or refuse??? Prison or shot. The voters resisted nothing, they voted for more war.

The Chinkernese have repeatedly threatened to nuke us ever since Bill Clinton gave them the technology to enable their ICBM's to accurately target America. We should form an alliance with Russia that opposes China, IMO. The Chinkernese have made their threats often enough that I certainly believe their intent to do us ill will.

I don't know.

But endless, unwinnable, unsustainable, mindless wars are not acceptable to me.

The entire economy may have to collapse to bring change, I just don't know.

Amerika today is teetering on the edge of an abyss I fear.

We should form an alliance with Russia that opposes China, IMO.

That is being done as we speak.

Putin is putting the olde Soviet Union back together, with our public anger, but private approval. It is in our interest and Russian interest to have a stronger Russia.

The Chinese understand, regardless of outward posturing etc by this country, that if China were to move north, this country would unite with Russia.

This is not a simple two plus two equals four.

Yes Sir it is, and there is no stopping our downfall.

This government accepts this and understands our demise.

How do we know????? Really quite simple.

The financial collapse of the US is certain and this government does nothing to try to avert coming disaster. Why not???

It is a race to see which occurs first, financial collapse or WWIII, in case of all out war, the collapse would be of no importance.
