You'll never get rid of Turtle

On the contrary.

The Buzzard clan has plans to make Turtle a part of us forever:

And the entire 4um is welcome to join us in this act of culinary remembrance.

Turtle Soup

Ingredients

1 1/2 sticks butter
2 1/2 pounds turtle meat, cut into medium dice*
Salt and freshly cracked pepper
2 medium onions, cut into medium dice
6 stalks celery, cut into medium dice
30 cloves garlic, minced
3 bell peppers, cut into medium dice
1 tablespoon dried thyme, ground
1 tablespoon dried oregano, ground
4 bay leaves
2 quarts veal stock
1 cup all-purpose flour
26 ounces dry sherry (750-ml bottle)
1 tablespoon hot pepper sauce
1/4 cup Worcestershire sauce
2 large lemons, juiced
3 cups peeled, chopped, and seeded tomatoes
10 ounces fresh spinach, stems removed, washed 3 times, and roughly chopped
6 medium hard-boiled eggs, chopped into large pieces

Directions

Turtle meat usually comes in 2 1/2-pound portions.

In a large soup pot over medium to high heat, melt 1/2 stick butter. Add turtle meat and brown. Season, to taste, with salt and pepper. Cook for about 18 to 20 minutes or until liquid is almost dry. Add onions, celery, garlic, and peppers, constantly stirring. Add thyme, oregano, and bay leaves and saute for about 22 minutes**. Add stock, bring to a boil, and simmer for 30 minutes. Skim any fat that comes to the top.

While stock is simmering, make the roux. In a small saucepan, melt remaining butter over medium heat. Slowly add flour, a little at a time, constantly stirring with a wooden spoon. Be careful not to burn. After all of the flour has been added, cook until roux smells nutty, is pale in color, and has a consistency of wet sand, about 3 minutes. Set aside to let cool until soup is ready (roux should be cool when adding to hot soup).

Using a whisk, stir the roux into the stock vigorously, adding a little at a time to prevent lumping. Simmer for about 25 minutes. Stir to prevent sticking on bottom. Add sherry and bring to a boil. Add hot sauce and Worcestershire sauce. Simmer and skim any fat or foam that comes to top. Add lemon juice and tomatoes and return to a simmer. Add spinach and eggs, return to a simmer and adjust seasoning.

**Cook's Note: Caramelizing vegetables and meats very will to get the dark color you are looking for.

***Cook's Note: This is like a stew, eaten as a main dish. This soup freezes well.

It's the bankers fault !

My demise began when I found out that Rim Job and his dirty dozen were conspiring in the background to destroy people they did not like.

I started off by planting anti semetic remarks and then watching them in the background alert each other that I was there and for them to gather and plow me under.

Early on I got into their little private cabal behind the scenes, without them knowing I was there.

Then I knew, we had been sold out.

It started by one of them posting on FR what he had intended to post in private to the cabal. From there it was easy.

One of the stalwarts threatened to come here, bash my brains in.

Howling, I could have gone the rest of my life without ever reading that name. It took me a while to see what was going on with FR. Local guy and I formed a chapter of FR here. This was back when there was an active chapter in DC. Our first real project was a property rights protest. We were organizing a rally here in California to start off a traveling protest that would end in Florida were vets were having their property stolen. Our posts were time sensitive so like other chapters we posted our threads in breaking news. Someone kept taking them down. My co-leader and I couldn't get an answer as to why. My co-leader got banned for asking. We finally found out through rumor. Jeb Bush was up for re-election that year and he had supported the property theft. JR was afraid that if our protest grew legs it would hurt his re-election. Then at a later date they protected a political operative who was pushing for the election of Arnold. People supporting McClintock were getting banned, including me, while the lackey was protected. It was so much bullshit.

I assume you are using the term man loosely.

Indeed...

Many years ago, before he could strike out at people by banning them, I put him in the cross hairs, to see if he had a fear factor, of personal truth.

Rimjob and a gaggle of his sycophants were waxing hot about people that took ANY government handout in any form.

They were a self righteous group if ever there was one. Patting each other on the back because they were conservative stalwarts.

Rimjob was leading them like a pack of hounds, hot on the trail of the dastardly fox.

I politely chimed in with this, "There are few Americans that have not taken of government handouts". The toadies immediately jumped on my case, on and on, the language would curl a sailors hair. Knowing Rimjob had once been in the military, I set the trap.

Rimjob knew who I was aiming for. I offered to prove there was no one present that had NOT taken Federal handouts, one way or the other, all they had to do was answer a few questions.

Before anyone could ante up, Rimjob started spilling his guts about a time that he and his wife had fallen on hard times, and he being a navy veteran, had been "forced" onto a Federal dole. He laid it all out.

The toadies had urgent business to tend to, either they left or went mute. For once Rimjob told the truth.

Robinson proved to be a petty but cunning individual.

I would never take away from him his original idea and effort.

On the works of others, he found out he had a marketable enterprise going, so he sold out.

I was shocked and dismayed when I found out he had a "managing group" operating in the background, totally unknown to the rest of us.

The dim bulb of mine lit up when mentioning Israel and or jews in the negative became a trip wire. The posse would come out firing. From there on it just became a matter of adding two and two to get five.

Tell this to Bill...

When the big man threatened to bash in my brains, I invited him to step forward, however being olde in age I would have to have an equalizer, namely a .357 with which I would blow him away. Then I told him this, in case I fail to protect myself, the sheriff is a cousin, the Judge is my nephew, you will never leave here alive........

I never bothered to lock my door, still dont.

buckwheat's the curse -

Obama is like the old joke about a dying man lying in the hospital with his wife of 50 years:

Murray is lying on his death bed in a hospital room. His wife Ida sits by his side.

Murray says, "Ida you've always been by my side."

"You were there when I flunked out of college…

You were there when I was fired from my first job…

You were there when I opened a business and it failed.

You were there when I filed for bankruptcy…

You were there when I was paralyzed in the car crash…

Now you're here by my side as I lay dying of cancer….

I've given this a lot of thought…

Ida, darling...You're a jinx. Get the hell out of my hospital room!"

At some point you just have to conclude that Obama is our jinx. It doesn't matter if it's on purpose, or by mistake. The man is ruining our lives, our economy, our jobs, and most importantly, our children's future.

And by the way, it isn't just America he's brought bad luck to. Obama hasn't exactly been a good luck charm for the people of the European Union, Israel, Egypt, Syria, Libya, Iran, Afghanistan, North Korea or Ukraine either.

Obama is quite simply a jinx. Bad news. A walking disaster.

Except for China and Russia. Those two evil empires suddenly turned BFF (best friends forever) are thriving. All of our losses appear to be their gains.

Remember when Obama leaned over and whispered to the president of Russia that after his re-election he'd have "more flexibility" to help Putin out. Don’t look now, but it’s happening exactly as Obama whispered. I’m just surprised he didn’t whisper in Russian.

It seems every country in the world has been badly damaged by the policies of Obama…except Russia and China. Our decline is their shining moment.

Suddenly the world is Putin's oyster.

Suddenly our military is a feckless joke, incapable of stopping Russia's expansion plans.

Suddenly our obsession with green energy allows Russia’s economy to soar with energy revenues.

Suddenly our economy is stuck in reverse, while China’s economy explodes. Coincidence?

Funny how all this worked out.

“The most dangerous man to any government is the man who is able to think things out... without regard to the prevailing superstitions and taboos. Almost inevitably he comes to the conclusion that the government he lives under is dishonest, insane, intolerable.” ~ H. L. Mencken

Don't blame buckwheat! He's just doing what he's being told to do. In some sense, the American economy is more centrally-planned than any other in the world. Central planning the way we do it could kill any economy.

Nobody's "winning" in some zero-sum sense of the game. We're all losing at this rate: the whole human race.
