Brat Wrote That Hitler's Rise Could Happen Again

David Brat (R), who upset House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-VA) in a primary Tuesday, wrote in 2011 that Hitler's rise "could all happen again, quite easily," the Wall Street Journal reports.

He wrote: "Capitalism is here to stay, and we need a church model that corresponds to that reality. Read Nietzsche. Nietzsche's diagnosis of the weak modern Christian democratic man was spot on. Jesus was a great man. Jesus said he was the Son of God. Jesus made things happen. Jesus had faith. Jesus actually made people better. Then came the Christians. What happened? What went wrong? We appear to be a bit passive. Hitler came along, and he did not meet with unified resistance. I have the sinking feeling that it could all happen again, quite easily."

Never mind the usual scaremongering about The Return of "Hitler!!", what about the return of a couple of real despots: Stalin and Mao? Oh, wait........

X-15...

We need to keep Brat at arms length for awhile.

Is difficult to conceive that one could have a masters in theology, and follow concepts of Ayn Rand.

"11) Brat has a a Master of Divinity in Theology from Princeton Theological Seminary. "Before deciding to focus on economics, he wanted to be a professor of systematic theology and cites John Calvin, Karl Barth, and Reinhold Niebuhr as influences," Woodruff reports.

12) Brat headed a controversial, Randian-funded economics program at his college. As Danielle Kurtzleben explains here, this is the BB&T Moral Foundations of Capitalism program, which has been controversial at other universities for including Ayn Rand's ideas in its curricula. The program's funder, former BB&T bank CEO John Allison, has been a long-time promoter of Rand's philosophy".
