Dole was a good man until..he got to Washington. Power corrupts all.
It's ideal to end the journey wiser and nicer than when one began. DeeCee reverses that equation, as you noted with ED..er..BD.
Those that seek power, are seeking the elixir of life and always abuse it. Those that have power thrust upon them, are more apt to handle it with care and prudence. In my time, Harry Truman was the epitome of the latter.

Those that have power thrust upon them, are more apt to handle it with care and prudence. One big reason why I like the Lord of the Rings. It illustrates that so very, very well. In fact I consider that the main theme.
Approving the use of nuclear weapons against civilian targets I would not call "prudent."
