Shut the NSA's Backdoor to the Internet

An amendment is being voted on in the House of Representatives today or tomorrow. If passed, it would close critical backdoors that allow the NSA to surveil the Internet.

What backdoors would be closed?

Backdoor Searches of US Citizens' Internet Usage

What's happening: The NSA collects emails, browsing and chat history under Section 702 of the FISA Amendments Act, and searches this information without a warrant for the communications of Americans—a practice known as "backdoor searches."

The fix: The amendment would block the NSA from using any of its funding from the Defense Appropriations Bill to conduct such warrantless searches.

Backdoors in Encryption Standards

What's happening: The NSA has been requesting that private companies and organizations add backdoors to the encryption standards that are meant to keep you safe on the web.

The fix: The amendment would stop the NSA from using its budget to mandate or request such backdoors.*

Now is the time to call Congress

It's your responsibility:

If you understand what the backdoors above mean for the future of freedom and privacy, its your responsibility to pick up the phone and call.
It's your Internet and your freedom at stake.

The vote is imminent:

The amendment being offered by Rep. Zoe Lofgren and Rep. Thomas Massie is due to be voted on either today (June 18th) or tomorrow. Now is the time call and be counted.

Your call makes a difference:

Very few Americans, despite having a country with millions of us, ever call their legislators. 100+ phone calls per office in Congress would blow people's minds. We receive that little contact from people despite each office representing 100,000s+ citizens. This is because so many people drink the kool-aid that they have no power or that money controls everything.

This is untrue. What happens is money wins when people never complain (to their legislators!).

Call Now: It only takes 2 minutes

If we can get NSA in line, we would all be a lot better off. ;)

Was that one of the easiest ways ever to connect with your rep?

It says "two minutes" but I bet it only took half that to deliver the message.
