RALEIGH, NC (AP) - As North Carolina lawmakers debated a proposal to prevent charter schools from discriminating against applicants based on sexual orientation, one representative suggested Tuesday that adult sexual attraction to children is a sexual orientation like homosexuality.

The amendment was tabled by Republicans, preventing a vote on it. But during the debate, Republican Rep. Paul Stam, R-Wake, said pedophilia, masochism and other illegal sexual practices are sexual orientations like homosexuality and he questioned the role adults who are sexually attracted to children might have in schools.

Several lawmakers called those comments offensive. After the House session, Twitter lit up with criticism of Stam's comments from other lawmakers and left- leaning advocacy groups.

The amendment from Rep. Susan Fisher, D-Buncombe, would "prohibit a charter school from discriminating on the basis of sexual orientation or gender identity."

In response, Stam handed out a sheet listing what he said were 30 different sexual orientations. He argued the definition of sexual orientation must be narrowed, otherwise it would include masochism, sadism, pedophilia, along with homosexuality and heterosexuality.

"Sexual orientation is not defined anywhere," he said. "Many, many sexual orientations are not the ones you want to have teaching kids in schools," he said. "You may think you know what you mean by this but you don't."

Stam asked Fisher to take a question, and she refused. No one else in the chamber would either.

"Well I think the response speaks for itself," he said.

In rebuttal to Stam, Rep. Marcus Brandon, D-Guilford, argued that pedophilia is not a sexual orientation.

"It's offensive. Pedophilia is not a sexuality, it is a disease. It is a problem that has to be addressed outside of this body," he said. Brandon said the bigger issue in North Carolina is policies that treat some people as second-class citizens. "I don't think you should be able to do that," he added.

On its website, the American Psychological Association says sexual orientation "refers to an enduring pattern of emotional, romantic, and/or sexual attractions to men, women, or both sexes," and also refers to a person's sense of identity. It also says, "The American Psychological Association maintains that pedophilia is a mental disorder; that sex between adults and children is always wrong; and that acting on pedophilic impulses is and should be a criminal act."

An email request and phone call to Stam seeking comment was not immediately returned Tuesday night.

The House approved the changes to the charter school law, including making them subject to state open records law, allowing them to grow one grade level per year.

It also removed a provision prohibiting charter schools from discriminating against applications on the basis of ethnicity, national origin, gender or disability. And it allowed schools with single gender missions to limit admission on the basis of boys and girls, which the previous version had banned.

Charter school teachers also would be allowed to serve on the school's board of directors as non-voting members and make charter renewals valid for 10 years, unless specific conditions warrant a shorter charter.

Gays and peds have been regarded as perverts but would be interesting to sees stats on the incidence of pedophilia among gays.

You don't know? Seriously?

It's called pederasty.

Here's a clue: 85% of abuse in the Catholic Church was a case of adult priest on teen altar boys.

Get it? That's one best example.

Crime stats of adult male + teen/child unlawful sex gets messed up because young males are reluctant to admit to parents or teachers that they've been raped/violated. Girls always tell their elders these days because society encourages them to do so. Not the same for boys/young men. They are not supported re: saying they were victimized.

Aren't same sex encounters of any sort, "gay" by definition?

“The most dangerous man to any government is the man who is able to think things out... without regard to the prevailing superstitions and taboos. Almost inevitably he comes to the conclusion that the government he lives under is dishonest, insane, intolerable.” ~ H. L. Mencken

Gee, here's a real shock.

Those destroying this nation aren't going to be happy until people are openly having animalistic sex on the streets with people of the same gender, children, and even animals.

It's going to make the days of Noah look like life in a monastery.

As the following story run on Canada's Global TV indicates "gay"signifies males, lesbian females; the whole field as "pride."

WorldPride June 26, LGBTQ couples tie the knot in Toronto mass wedding By Diana Mehta The Canadian Press

WATCH: Over 100 couples exchange vows during Grand Pride wedding ceremony in Toronto. Angie Seth reports.

TORONTO – Inae Lee knows she won’t have the support of her South Korean parents as she weds her partner in Toronto today, but she’s hoping the 109 other couples tying the knot beside her will make up for her family’s rejection of her relationship.

Lee was one of the participants in a mass wedding for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer and two-spirited couples, which is considered the first of its kind in Canada.

The Grand Pride Wedding involved couples from across Canada as well as participants from countries where same sex marriage is illegal.

For Lee, the event is historically significant.

“In my parents’ mind they don’t believe that this can be celebrated. In their mind it’s something that’s illegal, it’s something that’s not allowed, it’s very sinful,” said 28-year-old Lee.

“I really want to let them know that we are celebrated, and it’s ok for us to get married.”

Lee is getting married to Jenny Chang Ho, who is originally from Venezuela. The pair met in Toronto two years ago and have been together ever since.

“This actually makes us appreciate more that we’re able to do this and be able to live in Canada,” Chang Ho said. “It’s very accepting and more diverse than other countries.”

Canada’s first legal same-sex marriage took place on June 10, 2003, just hours after Ontario’s Court of Appeal pronounced the Canadian law on traditional marriage unconstitutional.

Other provinces followed suit and the federal government legalized same-sex marriage countrywide two years later with the gender-neutral Civil Marriage Act.

For Cindy Su and her partner Lana Yu, Canada is a leading example when it comes to the acceptance of same-sex couples.

“We’re really jealous of Canada,” said Su, who travelled with Yu from Taiwan to tie the knot in Toronto. “We’re looking forward to this happening in our country.”

Both women spent time studying in Canada years ago, but only met four years ago in Taiwan. Although Yu’s parents don’t know about Su, the couple is determined to move the relationship forward and has even planned to try in vitro fertilization in Vancouver after the wedding.

“We figured we didn’t really want any objection to stop us from doing what we want in life,” she said. ” I’m actually looking forward to what happens when we go back. Obviously maybe in the future there will be some problems with the legality but now that we want to start a family, we have to be really brave.”

Organizers say up to 1,000 people were expected to attend Thursday’s Grand Pride Wedding, which is believed to be the largest of its kind in North America.

It was held at Casa Loma, a palatial Toronto home built between 1911 and 1914, which has since become a popular tourist attraction and event venue.

“What we see Casa Loma as is this grand lady at the top of the hill watching Toronto evolve,” said Nick Di Donato, president and CEO of the Liberty Entertainment Group which operates the facility and hosted the event. “This is a dramatic part of that evolution.”

Di Donato’s company took on all costs for the event, with the couples only had to pay for an Ontario marriage licence.

“It’s a lifetime event and something they’ll remember forever,” he said. “Most of these couples are from outside Toronto – they become our ambassadors for the city of Toronto in terms of the openness of the city and the welcome that we’ve provided them.”

The venue is of particular significance for Windsor, Ont., resident Aaron Bergeron, who is marrying partner Kenneth Grundy. The couple first visited Casa Loma when they were in Toronto two years ago.

“We were walking around in it and I was like ‘how awesome would it be to get married here,”‘ Bergeron said. “When we found out that that’s where they were having the giant ceremony, I was like, this has to happen.”

Bergeron also loves the fact that his marriage is part of a much larger celebration.

“We all get to come in and be part of this giant international thing where it doesn’t matter where you’re from or it doesn’t matter what you believe in,” he said.

“We’re all getting together because we love the person that we’re with and we want to express that.”

Despite the significance – and scale – of the celebration, some warn that the rights of lesbians, gays, bisexuals, transgenders, queers and two-spirited people (a First Nations term for individuals who are considered to be neither women nor men) still can’t be taken for granted.

“This says a lot about acceptance and change in our society, but I don’t think we should think that marriage is the great equator of equal rights and human rights,” said Helen Kennedy, executive director of national charity Egale, which was involved in planning the “big fat gay wedding”

“We constantly hear things like ‘oh, now you have marriage, now what do you want.”‘

Kennedy added that more work still needed to be done to combat issues like homophobic bullying, hate crimes and an overrepresentation of LGBTQ individuals among the homeless.

“It’s an amazing thing for these couples to express their love and devotion for each other in this ceremony, but we have to remember all of those other people who are still struggling.”

LOL! Our politicized "free" press loves to stuff their communistic agenda down readers' throats. They pretend to invite readers' feedback/comments, but as soon as they hear what readers' really think about their sacred subject, the press shuts down the comments section.

In the not too distant future, MSM will wither up and die. I can hardly wait for this to happen. No one is paying to read their print media (newspapers or magazines). Network TV news stations are barely hanging on by a thread. Network TV exists due to their holdings in sports channels and accompanying ads.
