94 percent of tuna and more than three quarters of sushi samples in New York City mislabeled New Study Shows 59% of “Tuna” Sold in the U.S. Isn’t Tuna

by Michael Krieger |Liberty Blitzkrieg | July 2, 2014

This is just the latest revelation in the stealth inflation and food fraud themeI have written about frequently in recent months. The non-profit group Oceana took samples of 1,215 fish sold in the U.S. and genetic tests found that that 59% of those labeled tuna were mislabeled. It seems that “white tuna” should be avoided in particular as “84% of fish samples labeled “white tuna” were actually escolar, a fish that can cause prolonged, uncontrollable, oily anal leakage.” Oh and if you live in my hometown of New York City, you should pay particular attention:

Big Apple has big problem with seafood fraud: 94 percent of tuna and more than three quarters of sushi samples in New York City mislabeled.

Of the 142 fish samples collected in New York, 39 percent were mislabeled. New York City led the nation with the highest occurrence of mislabeled salmon as well as the highest amount of fraud among salmon collected from grocery stores and restaurants.

Been that way for a long time.

Consumer ALWAYS gets swindled. That is the capitalistic way.

Honesty and big business have never been friends.

The Fulton fish market in NYC was/is a Mafia hub for generations. This stat doesn't surprise me at all.

Life is what happens to you when you are making other plans.

I see yesterday that someone is putting wood pulp in their hamburgers.

Under the guise of "all natural ingredients".

Wood pulp sure is natural.

No, it is not the capitalistic way; it is the crooked, white trash way of scum who take advantage of decent folks.

No, it is not the capitalistic way;

The decent folks are not capitalists.

They pay the freight.

Wealth flows upwards, shoddy goods and services flow downward.

...certainly some truth to that. Hooray, though, for the preponderance of exceptions. Keep the baby; toss the bathwater...

hahaha.

whatever "natural ingredients" means anyway....

GM is going to (rightly) get hosed on this one since 1) the problem has been known for seventeen years now, and, 2) the caps have come off the settlement amount.

Could be that wood pulp in hamburger means more fibre which counteracts the fat which everyone probably is getting too much of so the move assures better heart health; people live longer, eat more hamburgers. So a win-win.

Well if GM is doing more warehousing of cars than sales as an early story pointed to acres of new, unsold vehicles then fixing defects will keep dealers busy.Bernanke can be pulled out of retirement to print more bucks to bailout GM.

You can tune a piano but you can't tuna fish....

"The government ruling us draws its authority not from the principles of the Declaration of Independence, or even from the delegate powers listed in the U.S. Constitution, but rather from the war to re-conquer the independent South. That conflict, usually referred to by the artfully misleading title “Civil War,” established the fact that the government in Washington is willing to kill Americans in whatever quantity it deems necessary in order to enforce its edicts, and then sanctify the slaughter in the name of some suitably “progressive” social objective.
