Michael Hayden: Treat Immigration Crisis Like Insurgency

Gen. Michael Hayden, former director of the National Security Agency and CIA, said the constant flow of illegal immigrants should be treated like an insurgency.
"It's not an insurgency. I mean an insurgency has a political aim to overthrow the government," Hayden said on Newsmax TV's "America's Forum." "This is a criminal enterprise that's so big and so powerful that as a byproduct, it actually threatens the government."
Story continues below video.
"The way you go after an insurgency is number one, decapitate it, number two, deny it safe haven, and number three, change the facts on the ground that create the insurgency," he said.
"We've actually done reasonably well with step one in cooperation with the Mexican government in terms of decapitating the movement of the drug cartels, but we really haven't done much with the other two steps," Hayden said.
Gen. John Kelly, who is the commander of the U.S. Southern Command, recently said that the United States is facing an "existential" threat at the border due to the "drug and [undocumented immigrant] flow."
Hayden said that "the general has made a very true and telling point."
It "should be clear to all of us now" is that the border is nothing more than "a line on a map," Hayden said. "It doesn't really divide or separate Mexico from the United States. And why would we expect that the hideous levels of violence and corruption that we see in Mexico now would stay south of that border just because of that line on the map?"

Hayden is correct on this. The immigration crisis should be treated as insurgency. ;)
