On July 15, 2014, Carlos Alberto Portillo, 35, a citizen of El Salvador, was sentenced to 50 years in prison for the offense of Aggravated Sexual Assault of a Child. The sentence was handed down by 397th District Judge Brian Gary pursuant to a plea agreement reached with Portillo by the Grayson County District Attorney’s Office.

On December 28, 2013, the Sherman Police Department received a call from a 40-year-old Sherman woman that Portillo, who was the woman’s live-in boyfriend, had sexually assaulted the woman’s 8-year-old granddaughter. The woman, who had legal custody of her four grandchildren, from ages 3 to 9, had noted strange behavior in her granddaughter. Upon asking the young girl if anyone had touched her, the grandmother was told that Portillo had been having sexual contact with the girl for several weeks. The woman told the police that when she confronted Portillo about the girl’s outcry, Portillo originally denied it, but then confessed to her and apologized.

Officers took Portillo to the Sherman Police Department, and upon being questioned, he confessed to having sexual contact with the girl on many occasions over the last 6 months. The girl was taken to the Grayson County Children’s Advocacy Center where she was interviewed and a sexual assault medical examination was completed. The examination confirmed signs of injury.

“We just hate to see these cases,” said Grayson County District Attorney Joe Brown. “There are just too many of them. It is certainly somewhat uncommon to get a confession from the offender like this, but the Sherman Police Department does a good job with their interrogations, and we do get confessions occasionally. They have Spanish speaking officers, and they are well-trained on interview techniques.”

“It is also interesting that this offender is from El Salvador," Brown noted. "There should be no misperception that all of the immigrants coming here from Central America are law abiding.”

Portillo will be eligible for parole after serving 25 years of his sentence. The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Brett Smith. Portillo was represented by Sherman attorney John Nix.

Stupidity is a wide ranging affliction.

It knows no bounds of intelligence nor educations.

I don't think the guy is stupid. I think X was merely expressing his amazement that the DA dared to be so openly honest instead of just mouthing the usual stock, state approved PC narrative.

Cynicom thinks the remark is stupid?

Did he misread it or does he believe that it's wrong for a prosecutor to publicly note that some immigrants from Mexico, South and Central America (like MS-13) are cutthroats and crims of the lowest order?

"Nits breed lice", which is why Brazilian businessmen hire death squads to kill street urchins before they're mature (and resourceful) enough to avenge the abuse they suffered while begging, stealing and robbing their way to adulthood. Those who survive have toolboxes of skills that make them extremely dangerous, and some won't forget the merchants who were cruel to them before heading to el paraíso del norte.

Once they slip into The US they begin termiting away the roots of the system here. And as far as child molestors go, remember that The Monster Of The Andes, Pedro Alonzo Lopez was released from prison despite his convictions for murdering 57 children. (He claims that he's raped and murdered over 300)

He loves to have little tea parties with the corpses. One can only wonder if the US now has enough unsuspecting Ecuadorian girls (and touchy, feely Democrats) to entice him to move here.

"I like the girls in Ecuador, they are more gentle and trusting, more innocent."__"Uncle Pedro" Lopez

I'm sure Cyni agrees. His comment is a reaction to the DA who obviously needs a psych exam, STAT.

Most of the adult males "escaping terrible living conditions" in south and central america are on the run from the law in their own countries. Reminds me of my youth when some of the guys from my old neighborhood in Ohio would pick up a felony case or get a girl pregnant, they'd escape to Florida to hide out. (can't do that any more)

Well if the D.A. is surprised that a child molester would be from El Salvador, I'd be interested to hear why he'd think that those people (though admittedly put upon by *US trained hit squads) would be less likely to have criminal tendencies. Perhaps because Bishop Oscar Romero was martyred for his vigorous practice of LIBERATION THEOLOGY, speaking out against govt repression of the people and The Church, D.A. Brown believes that all Salvadoran civilians are law abiding, peacenik Catholics.

But, The D.A.'s poorly worded statement that "not all immigrants are law abiding" is hardly a revelation. No one here believes the "misperception" (SIC- Actually it's misconception) that there are any exceptions to the criminal blight that plagues barefooted, brown skinned third world countries.

If you ever get down here to Fannin and adjacent Grayson counties, I believe that you'll feel very much at home with the folks there.

Except for income, the demographics of each are most pleasing.

Come'on down.

Stupidity is sitting on one's arse awaiting the FEDERAL MAFIA's assistance in protecting a border that they wish didn't exist.

The difference in my opinion is that the people escaping the old neighborhood to avoid prosecution were OURS, and most felt some relationship to our way of life, and spoke OUR language.

The current invasion of criminals is made up of folks that don't particularly care for us, our way of life, and do not in most cases speak the language.

If the laws aren't going to be enforced by those charged with the duty - that duty falls to us.

Duh!

Unfortunately this POS pedophile from El Salvador will now get 3 squares, cable vision, and law school education courtesy of American taxpayers for the next 25 years.

That's why he confessed so readily.
