Jon Voight Pens Angry Letter to Spanish Stars Over Israel-Bashing Sunday, 03 Aug 2014 06:03 PM By Greg Richter Calling himself "more than angry," actor Jon Voight penned an open letter in response to several Spanish stars' condemnation of Israel in its current battle with Hamas in Gaza. The letter, published in The Hollywood Reporter, accuses actors Penelope Cruz and Javier Bardem and director Pedro Almodovar of inciting anti-Semitism worldwide while being oblivious to its effects. Voight has spoken in favor of Israel at public rallies and has been critical of the Obama administration's policy in the current conflict. His letter was a response to the trio, who joined other Spanish entertainers in denouncing Israel in a manifesto, according to Europa Press. They call Israeli attacks in Gaza that have killed civilians, including children, "genocide." "Gaza is living through horror these days, besieged and attacked by land, sea and air," they wrote, according to an English translation of the letter. "Palestinians' homes are being destroyed, they are being denied water, electricity [and] free movement to their hospitals, schools and fields while the international community does nothing." They blame the current violence on Israel continuing "to advance into and invade the Palestinian territories instead of returning to the 1967 borders." Voight responded that the stars are "ignorant" of Israel's birth, citing the how the modern nation of Israel was created in 1948 and recounting how it was attacked in 1967 and 1973 by its Arab neighbors. Israel "voluntarily returned the Sinai Peninsula to Egypt in return for peace, and gave the Palestinians all of Gaza as a peace gesture," Voight wrote. "What was the response? The Palestinians elected Hamas, a terrorist organization, and they immediately began firing thousands of rockets into Israel." Voight reminded the group that Hamas started the current conflict by kidnapping and killing three Israeli teenagers on their way from school. "You should hang your heads in shame. You should all come forth with deep regrets for what you did, and ask forgiveness from the suffering people in Israel," Voight wrote. Voight has been a pretty decent actor but should really do some fact checking before running off at the mouth. Hamas, consistently, denied any involvement in the kidnapping and killing of the three teens and after the teens were "found", ISIS, the CIA/Mossad terrorist group, claimed responsibility.
