Although the gun-wielding thief was half his age, Lewis wasn't giving in. When the robber first pulled out the gun, Lewis grabbed his wrist and began a desperate arm wrestling match. Somehow, Lewis managed to get his own gun out. "I reached in my pocket and I had a .38 revolver and I fired into him," Lewis said. "I later found out that I emptied my gun."

At least the 'journalist' didn't use the old canard "in a robbery gone wrong" in defense of the robbers' Robin Hood-like intentions.

Difference in time, culture and race. During the great depression, we were hungry MOST of the time. Stealing, robbery or such was never even thought of, never entered our minds. Hunger is an over powering, driving force, but it does not overcome the inherent will to do right.
