Israel resembles a bandit who has broken into someones home and has stolen everything at gunpoint, while at the same time portraying itself as the victim, a Lebanese-American journalist and author of several books focusing on Zionists says. The US government is turning increasingly nervous by the criminal and illegal actions of Israels Prime Minister and attempting half-heartedly to curtail them and maintain Israel's face in the world, Mark Glenn told Press TV in a phone interview on Wednesday. More left leaning elements within the Obama administration [are growing] nervous because Benjamin Netanyahu is making it very difficult to continue support for Israel around the world when Benjamin Netanyahu is acting like a gangster, Glenn argued. Its very difficult for Israel to maintain any sense of sympathy from the rest of the world when it is engaging in the kind of behavior that its doing now, said Glenn, who is also the co-founder of the Crescent and Cross Solidarity Movement. In effect, what we have here, is a bandit who has broken into someones home, stuck a gun in the face of the father and mother and the children and has said give me all of your money, give me all your valuables and then this bandit is trying to portray himself as the victim, he noted. The left leaning elements in the Obama administration understand that this is a problem and that this is the reason why theyre trying to curtail this in order to maintain Israels place in the world. Glenn called the US State Departments unusually harsh criticism of Israel for grabbing nearly 1,000 acres of Palestinian land as theatrics and a half-hearted attempt at pretending that the United States is still a sovereign superpower. We are deeply concerned about the declaration of a large area as state land to be used for expanded settlement building, State Department spokeswoman Jen Psaki said in a statement on Tuesday. We call on the Government of Israel to reverse this decision. The language was more pointed than US spokesmen typically uses, and the specific call to reverse an already declared decision was also unusual, the Washington Post reported on Tuesday. Israeli settlement activities are illegal based on international law but the United States only describes them as illegitimate and unhelpful to the so-called peace talks between Israelis and Palestinian Authority. Hundreds of Palestinians are displaced every year in the West Bank after Tel Aviv destroys their buildings, the UN Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) said this week.
