Luke 2:1 And it came to pass in those days, that there went out a decree from Caesar Augustus, that all the world should be taxed.

Luk 2:2 ([And] this taxing was first made when Cyrenius was governor of Syria.)

Luk 2:3 And all went to be taxed, every one into his own city.

Luk 2:4 And Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judaea, unto the city of David, which is called Bethlehem; (because he was of the house and lineage of David:)

Luk 2:5 To be taxed with Mary his espoused wife, being great with child.

Luk 2:6 And so it was, that, while they were there, the days were accomplished that she should be delivered.

Luk 2:7 And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn.

Luk 2:8 And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night.

Luk 2:9 And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid.

Luk 2:10 And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people.

Luk 2:11 For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.

Luk 2:12 And this [shall be] a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger.

Luk 2:13 And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying,

Luk 2:14 Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.

Luk 2:15 And it came to pass, as the angels were gone away from them into heaven, the shepherds said one to another, Let us now go even unto Bethlehem, and see this thing which is come to pass, which the Lord hath made known unto us.

Luk 2:16 And they came with haste, and found Mary, and Joseph, and the babe lying in a manger.

Luk 2:17 And when they had seen [it], they made known abroad the saying which was told them concerning this child.

Luk 2:18 And all they that heard [it] wondered at those things which were told them by the shepherds.

Luk 2:19 But Mary kept all these things, and pondered [them] in her heart.

Luk 2:20 And the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things that they had heard and seen, as it was told unto them.

Luk 2:21 And when eight days were accomplished for the circumcising of the child, his name was called JESUS, which was so named of the angel before he was conceived in the womb.

Luk 2:22 And when the days of her purification according to the law of Moses were accomplished, they brought him to Jerusalem, to present [him] to the Lord;

Luk 2:23 (As it is written in the law of the Lord, Every male that openeth the womb shall be called holy to the Lord;)

Luk 2:24 And to offer a sacrifice according to that which is said in the law of the Lord, A pair of turtledoves, or two young pigeons.

Luk 2:25 And, behold, there was a man in Jerusalem, whose name [was] Simeon; and the same man [was] just and devout, waiting for the consolation of Israel: and the Holy Ghost was upon him.

Luk 2:26 And it was revealed unto him by the Holy Ghost, that he should not see death, before he had seen the Lord's Christ.

Luk 2:27 And he came by the Spirit into the temple: and when the parents brought in the child Jesus, to do for him after the custom of the law,

Luk 2:28 Then took he him up in his arms, and blessed God, and said,

Luk 2:29 Lord, now lettest thou thy servant depart in peace, according to thy word:

Luk 2:30 For mine eyes have seen thy salvation,

Luk 2:31 Which thou hast prepared before the face of all people;

Luk 2:32 A light to lighten the Gentiles, and the glory of thy people Israel.

Below is part of John Chapter 3

John 3:1 There was a man of the Pharisees, named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews:

Jhn 3:2 The same came to Jesus by night, and said unto him, Rabbi, we know that thou art a teacher come from God: for no man can do these miracles that thou doest, except God be with him.

Jhn 3:3 Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.

Jhn 3:4 Nicodemus saith unto him, How can a man be born when he is old? can he enter the second time into his mother's womb, and be born?

Jhn 3:5 Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and [of] the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.

Jhn 3:6 That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.

Jhn 3:7 Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again.

Jhn 3:8 The wind bloweth where it listeth, and thou hearest the sound thereof, but canst not tell whence it cometh, and whither it goeth: so is every one that is born of the Spirit.

Jhn 3:9 Nicodemus answered and said unto him, How can these things be?

Jhn 3:10 Jesus answered and said unto him, Art thou a master of Israel, and knowest not these things?

Jhn 3:11 Verily, verily, I say unto thee, We speak that we do know, and testify that we have seen; and ye receive not our witness.

Jhn 3:12 If I have told you earthly things, and ye believe not, how shall ye believe, if I tell you [of] heavenly things?

Jhn 3:13 And no man hath ascended up to heaven, but he that came down from heaven, [even] the Son of man which is in heaven.

Jhn 3:14 And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up:

Jhn 3:15 That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life.

Jhn 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

Jhn 3:17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.

Jhn 3:18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.

Jhn 3:19 And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.

Jhn 3:20 For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved.

Jhn 3:21 But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God.

I'm a little disappointed that when i posted this I was severely attacked for my faith. but I wasn't attacked on this thread. I was attacked IMMEDIATELY after posting this, but attacked on another thread for something I said on another thread.

http://freedom4um.com/cgi-bin/readart.cgi?ArtNum=16896

I was attacked in #42 on this other thread for what I said in #28. I answered those attacks on the other thread.

the word of god is the most powerful weapon that god has. the bible says that when this age of the end times does close that jesus will return, he will lead his army against the enemy, but the weapon he will use to defeat the enemy will be the sword that comes out of his mouth. here are some bible verses on that.

Rev 1:16 And he had in his right hand seven stars: and out of his mouth went a sharp twoedged sword: and his countenance [was] as the sun shineth in his strength.

Rev 2:16 Repent; or else I will come unto thee quickly, and will fight against them with the sword of my mouth.

Rev 19:15 And out of his mouth goeth a sharp sword, that with it he should smite the nations: and he shall rule them with a rod of iron: and he treadeth the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God.

Rev 19:21 And the remnant were slain with the sword of him that sat upon the horse, which [sword] proceeded out of his mouth: and all the fowls were filled with their flesh.

The word of god is mighty. Let it be noted here. that I posted the word of god here. and the attacks came on another thread against words I said.

you can celebrate christmas all you want. and the people of this world will not attack you for it. but when you show the word of god, then you are attacked.

God talks a bunch. He's got allot to say and on a wide variety of subjects.

One of the things he says is: "Do not cast pearls before swine"

I think that's what you're doing here, honestly.

I know you mean to do right, but have you ever witnessed a single instance where telling someone they're damned has worked? Or even helped?

You know, I don't think this time is going to end up any differently.

I've never studied this but could it mean Jesus is suppose to defeat God's enemies with words; because he will be fighting a battle of wits with these very evil and clever people who will be ruling the world when he comes back (if the bible is all true).

you see in the biblical view god's words have great power. it says he created the world by speaking it into existence. So, will these be words like our words that we can understand, a logical argument that will prevail? or will this be something super-natural? or will this mean that the people who believe in god will take god's word seriously and let it inspire them and thus overcome the evil ones through their own efforts? We don't know the exact meaning or answer to these questions.

here is a bible verse:

2 Corinthians 10:4 (For the weapons of our warfare [are] not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;) here's another one

Ephesians 6:12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high [places].

you see this describes spiritual warfare. The battle is between spirits. Not between this army of humans and that army of humans. we are only tools for the spirits. but the powerful weapons god has I believe are his word (the bible is an example of that), our faith (our faith is very powerful) and his blood (blood sacrifice of jesus).

here are some verses that develop those ideas

Ephesians 6:10 Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might.

Eph 6:11 Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.

Eph 6:12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high [places].

Eph 6:13 Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.

Eph 6:14 Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness;

Eph 6:15 And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace;

Eph 6:16 Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.

Eph 6:17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:

Eph 6:18 Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;

Eph 6:19 And for me, that utterance may be given unto me, that I may open my mouth boldly, to make known the mystery of the gospel,

it is not our place to know all. It is god's place. It is our place to have faith, to not be deceived by evil ones (who use deception as a tool) and it is our place to persevere. it is god's place to win the battle and he will do this at the hour of our greatest need - which will come.

here's a verse that explains the power of our faith

Matthew 17:20 And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you.

meaning that if your faith is as big as a mustard seed (an extremely small seed), then you can move mountains. here's another example - while jesus was born in bethlehem he grew up in nazareth. The people in nazreth knew him as a child. But he came into his ministry as an adult. He did show amazing knowledge & understanding as a child and could speak to the rabbis about the scripture with extraordinary knowledge that nobody could understand how he got that knowledge. and he referred to god as his father even as a child. But when he became an adult is when he really came into his ministry and began preaching. When he was on his roll and he was travelling around and teaching his gospel and working miracles he came to nazareth, his home-town. They all knew him. They said he was just a regular guy. they had no faith. because of this he either refused to work a miracle there or he couldn't work a miracle there. he left and he said something like 'those people have no faith - I want to leave'. this is how powerful faith is. It is up to us to have that faith.

that is a good thought about pearls before swine. and thank you for those nice words.

but I did not tell anyone they were damned. I posted part of Luke chapter 2 which describes the coming of jesus as a very important event and that jesus would provide light to the people of the world. And I posted from John chapter 3, where in John 3:16 it says god gave jesus to save the world, not to condemn it.

and it was a very productive conversation I had on the other thread as well. and nobody was upset. I just thought it was curious that the doubter came somewhere else and not here. But I posted this here first and immediately the doubter came somewhere else.

merry christmas.

we had a very excellent and spirited discussion last night. on this thread. and mostly on the other thread I put a link to on this thread. it was a little bit amazing I thought. Because I posted these bible verses here thinking we would only celebrate christmas with some bible verses. and then immediately after I posted a fellow chose to attack something I wrote on another thread. and I answered every question as best I could. this all happened on other thread.

but praise the lord. I like these bible verses here. I hope you and your family are having a nice day today.

Red, I read the "other thread." I'm curious, why do you see Dude's post as an attack of you? I didn't get that impression at all. It was a discussion which I found interesting myself. I enjoyed reading both of your points of view. I didn't see a criticism of you because of your beliefs.

it was a polite discussion. Dude did not attack me. he expressed doubt and ridicule of the faith though. and he did so very strongly. it was prompted by the bible verses here. but the attack occurred on something I said some time ago somewhere else. he was just going to express intolerance over simple bible verses about christmas being posted. and he did.

Uh posting a chapter from Luke isn't casting pearls before swine. What do you want to cut out whole books of the Bible. God told us to tell people about hell. I used to go to a church where the preacher didn't talk about hell. I don't go there anymore, for that among other reasons. God didn't say to sugarcoat his word. Your dead wrong on this one Jhoffa.

I never said it was..

I don't. Speaking of books, perhaps you should pick up the "hooked on phonics" series and learn to read.

After you learn to read, you might spend a little time reading the New Testament. It might surprise you how the "good news" was preached.

Then you're foolish.

"Pearls before swine" is a quote. Why do you suppose yourself and your opinion superior to what's written?

I didn't say that either.

You're provably wrong.. and your ignorance on the sunject is nothing to be proud of, stone.

I don't care about debating. I care about expressing myself and discussing.

Dude obviously has significant knowledge of the bible. he just sees a few things differently from me. I was a little put out at first as it was an expression of doubt on this faith. But I see after reading follow-up comments it was just an honest expression of his feelings just as mine was the same.

I answered every point as best I could. and he did the same.

I tire of this..

Give me a personal example about screaming "You're going to Hell! And you! And you!" actually helped anything.

What it does is makes us all look bad. It alienates people and it's dishonest on it's face. It's only half the story, the negative half.. The worst half. The "Worship me, or I'll kick your ass!" half and it makes God look like nothing more than some kind of omnipresent thug.

Further, as soon as you blow your top and make a mistake, it (rightfully) opens you to the same type of language and finger pointing.. Also, not helpful.

Fact is, everyone is going to hell apart from God. But, that's not what the New Testament is about. It's not about going to hell. Read it, it's about AVOIDING hell and about sacrifice and salvation. It's full of mercy and grace to the sinners, made in God's image, who cover the face of the earth and among whom are counted every man ever born... except for one.

There's no "sugar coating" to it.

To confuse God's grace and mercy, the only "Good News" in the New Testament, with "sugar coating" is to condemn both Jesus and the Apostles.. Because that's the message. Forgivness from sin and eternal life because of it.

It might make you feel good to scream at people and waggle your finger, but you're not helping and, regardless of how much effort you expend, you'll acomplish nothing useful.

Now, I don't expect you to understand or acknowledge the correctness of this, but I do want you to remember it, as you come and go and witness the effectiveness of the "You're all goin' to hell!" approach in actual application.

I pretty much agree with everything you said there. I only take exception to you saying that Red Jones is casting pearls before swine for posting part of the book of Luke. I think you have to predominately talk about the "good news" but you have to talk about Hell. Many so called christians don't believe there is a hell or that everyone goes to heaven. That is the only point I was trying to make. Thanks for the well thought out response. Also im serious have a great christmas and a greater new year. Peace mr Jhoffa_

It troubles me when people put so much effort into being laughed at by folks who just don't care, or attack him for his effort. This sort of thing is what the quote pertains to.. Not his posting.

Of course.. Honestly though, if all I heard was hell, I wouldn't care.

"Thug Jesus" isn't enough to do the trick for me. Someone who is "willing that none should be lost" and loves me and wants to help, that's the guy I'm going to back. No question in my mind what-so-ever.

Will he send me there? Yep. But he doesn't want to, he wants to help me and he's not fond of the idea.

You're welcome.. Merry Christmas to you also.

because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved.

the word of god is the most powerful weapon that god has. the bible says that when this age of the end times does close that jesus will return, he will lead his army against the enemy, but the weapon he will use to defeat the enemy will be the sword that comes out of his mouth. here are some bible verses on that.

Well.. the enemy was defeated at the cross.. not coming it's already achieved.

I always thought the sword was judgement.

Well.. Jesus defeated the enemy at the cross. Jesus said: "The time is coming and now is" (John 4:23; 5:25) Not a distant future event. And He said: "Not of this world" (John 18:36), and "The kingdom of God cometh not with observation" (Luke 17:20). .. not a kingdom that will be with sight.. but rather by faith .. the kingdom is a spiritual kingdom not a physical one. The word is sword.. as in Eph 6:10-17. "Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God."

"Except a man be born again [of the Spirit], he cannot "see" the kingdom of God (brackets and quotes mine). Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God" ( John 3:3,5). "If I have told you earthly things, and ye believe not, how shall ye believe, if I tell you of heavenly things" (John 3:12)..SO how can the kingdom then be of this earth if as the premilliennialists say all Christians will leave this world and leave it to the unsaved? How can they possibly see the kingdom if it's earthly and the only way to 'see' it is if one is born again of the spirit?
