The revenue agents in the California legislature have launched a scheme preparing to charge motorists by the mile to drive in the state. SB-1077' 'Vehicles: road usage charge pilot program' will create a task force to address all the aspects of a 'charge- drivers-by-the- mile' program in the state, which would replace the purportedly 'ineffective' and 'inadequate' gasoline tax. Is it safe to assume then that the gas tax will be discontinued? (In your dreams!)
I guess there will enough cop cars on the road to follow each driver individually to count their mileage.

I think the "we'll check your odometer once a year" is pure b.s. because people leave the state on trips regularly. They'll try to get some sort of tracking device. I can't imagine the people going for this.
