Actor Kevin Sorbo, who is promoting the DVD release of the movie Gods Not Dead, offered a simple explanation for why more Christian-themed movies arent released. The former star of TVs Hercules series discussed the movie business, in general, and religious-themed movies, in particular, with conservative Christian broadcaster Peter Heck.
You always hear that the language of Hollywood is money, and yet theres something that doesnt compute, and thats one of the reasons I wanted to talk to you because, man, youve hammered home this idea of an agenda thats out there, Heck said.
Both Heck and Sorbo agreed that the recent Noah film, directed by Darren Aronofsky, was inaccurate and embarrassing.
My wife called it Transformers meets Waterworld, Sorbo said. It was such a strange movie.
The actor, who has recently attacked atheists, blamed Jews for the death of Jesus, and compared black Ferguson protesters to animals, questioned why an atheist would be hired to direct a film version of a biblical story.
I think next time when they want to do a, you know, character in the Bible, hire at least an agnostic and not an atheist to direct it, Sorbo said. I mean, the director is a self-proclaimed atheist.
He continued with his point, but he stammered and seemed to pull up a bit short as he reached his conclusion.
I sort of understand how they never want to deal with the New Testament in Hollywood, because its pretty much, you know, run by the world of the, um, Jewish population, Sorbo said, chuckling. At the same time, at least get someone that has, you know, believes that the potential is there, that it could be a real story."
