Local fr...The safety warnings foreign governments issue to their citizens when visiting France can appear to be excessively alarming. Although we don't want to be scaremongers, here are a few of the most severe from governments around the world. What else would you add?

: Travel warnings about France» Migrant headache: "There are large numbers of illegal migrants in and around Calais, who may seek an opportunity to enter the UK illegally. Although local police patrols have been reinforced, you should keep vehicle doors locked in slow moving traffic and secure your vehicle when it is left unattended." (UK gov't)

Dangerous trains: "Pickpockets are very active on the rail link (RER B) from Charles de Gaulle Airport to the city center. Travelers may want to consider using a shuttle service or one of the express buses to central Paris rather than the RER. In addition, passengers are often targeted on Metro Line 1.” (US gov't)

Shop with care: "Many thefts also occur at the major department stores (e.g., Galeries Lafayette, Printemps, and Le Bon Marché), where tourists may leave wallets, passports, and credit cards on cashier counters during transactions." (US gov't)

Pickpocket prey: "The crowded elevators at the Eiffel Tower, escalators at museums such as the Louvre, and the area surrounding Sacré Coeur Basilica in Montmartre are all favored by pickpockets and snatch-and-grab thieves." (US gov't)

Stripped bare: "Pigalle is an adult entertainment area known for sex shows, prostitution, and illegal drugs. Unsuspecting tourists have run up exorbitant bar bills and been forced to pay before being permitted to leave." (US gov't)

Booming business: "There have been a number of explosions, failed explosions and other attacks in Corsica. Government buildings, restaurants, police vehicles, bars, a discotheque and holiday homes have been targeted. The authorities believe the Corsican nationalist group the FLNC are responsible, and have warned that attacks could escalate." (UK gov't)

Grave robbers: "Theft of parked cars or their contents is particularly common on beach roads in Corsica. There are also reports of thefts from vehicles parked at Normandy beaches and war cemeteries." (Canadian gov't)

Literally ripped off: "Be especially vigilant when stopped at traffic lights, as bags are often snatched from the front passenger seat by thieves travelling on scooters. Keep windows closed and doors locked at all times." (Canadian gov't)

Riot time: "Protests and large demonstrations occur regularly in France and can sometimes escalate into violence and rioting... You should also avoid, particularly at night, outlying Paris suburbs where in the past there has been civil unrest and clashes between local youths and police forces." (Australian gov't)

Marauding youths: "There is a growing incidence of violent attacks against tourists by groups of young people, usually occurring late at night around major tourist attractions such as the Champs-Elysées, the Louvre and the Palais Royal areas, the Les Halles district, the Latin Quarter in central Paris and the environs of the Gare du Nord train station." (Australian gov't)

Crooked cabbies: "Drivers of unlicensed taxis frequently don’t respect rules on fares and, more importantly, will not have undergone security and police checks that are compulsory for registered taxi drivers. There have been recent cases of assaults on foreign tourists by unlicensed taxi drivers so if you’re in any doubt, don’t use the service." (Irish gov't)

Survival camp: "It is recommended to use campervans and caravans only at guarded campsites. In regards to overnight stays at rest areas, especially along the highways in the north-south direction to southern France or Spain and throughout the south of France, it is strongly discouraged because of activities of organized gangs." (German gov't)

Forest fires: “In the summer months in France due to the dry climate, bush and forest fires are a danger. Travelers should be aware of appropriate messages in the media and of the local authorities.” (German gov’t)

How much?: “We recommend caution when when paying at nightclubs and bars as employees may try to overcharge you.” (Mexican gov’t) CLICK HERE to see the top five street scams to avoid in Paris www.thelocal.fr/galleries...y-visit-tourist-france/14
