Once again, the hope is to lay down the cigarettes for good. Quit date is set for Jan 1.

I have been doing a lot of reading about the hazards of fried food. For my New Year's resolution, I am quitting it totally. 100%. Completely. Starting next week absolutely no more reading!

And I'm optimistic. See, I think you can be realistic and optimistic at the same time. I'm optimistic we'll achieve -- I know we won't achieve if we send mixed signals. I know we're not going to achieve our objective if we send mixed signals - gwbush

The Iraq War is an unconstitutional, unjustifiable conflict devouring innocent lives and abetting the growth of an increasingly lawless leviathan state. It must be ended -- now.

One suggestion, that I've made to others who wanted to quit. First, switch to a brand that has NO ADDITIVES, and smoke only that brand for at least one month, preferably two. Then, and only then, go ahead and quit. Cold turkey seems to work best. But right now you are most likely addicted to two things, nicotine and the additives in cigarettes. So first get rid of the additive addiction, then get rid of the nicotine addiction. Because trying to quit both at the same time can be more than most people can handle, and don't think that wasn't the plan.

The stuff laid me down. After I turned 40 something, it was over afa me holding it. Zero tolerance to this day, and that's fine with me. The smoking thing was all downhill after a week. Be ready for food to taste lots better tho :)

Does "No Additives" mean the smae thing as "Additive Free"? Cause it says the latter on every box of Winstons I've come across in the last decade, and believe me, RJReynolds brands are not the path to pathogen-free living they claim.

And I'm optimistic. See, I think you can be realistic and optimistic at the same time. I'm optimistic we'll achieve -- I know we won't achieve if we send mixed signals. I know we're not going to achieve our objective if we send mixed signals - gwbush

That's why I got the Nicorette Inhalers. Strictly nicotine with no additives to inhale (oooh another plus, I can appease my nicotine craving in my cubicle:P)plus it will help with the hand to mouth habit. Canadadrugsonline sells the starter kits and refills without a prescription. Good mail service and great price.

Don't know. I had a friend who switched to Winstons before quitting, and according to him it made a difference. If you want to be really sure, I suggest you check out Shermans or another "boutique" brand. I used to smoke, got up to a pack a day, then said "what am I doing?" and quit right then. However, since I only smoked Shermans, quitting was no big deal.

There's tobacco grown by AmerIndians called Free Spirit or some such generic nonsense. Friends who have tried their cigs say you have to huff on them or they'll go out. Store-bought cigs keep burning whether you're there or not.

How else can a man top a raging success like Roanoke Island than to bring tobacco back to England?

The way I see it, giving tobacco to the white man was the Indian's idea of a payback for firewater.

As a heavy smoker for just over 40 years (I even forced myself to smoke with morning sickness due to both pregnancies!), I tried quitting on my own several times. Read on the internet where the nicotine is out of body after 72 hours, and then the rest is just habit or some such.

What worked for me was GOD.....so when I say, Thank God, I really mean it.

I knew for myself that after trying to quit numerous times, I wasn't gonna bullshit myself. At the same time, I was afraid to ask God because I didn't want to be the one that sullied His reputation.

But one evening, I literally rolled it over on Him. Told Him I couldn't do it on my own (He already knew that) and asked for the strength to make it thru one urge to smoke at a time. I went to bed with that in my prayers and woke with those prayers.

I left a near full pack of cigarettes on the coffee table, alongside the lighter and an ashtray. I wasn't going to try to 'shit myself'.

I can honestly say I never had a craving for a single (or a lot) puff off a cigarette since that evening. If even the image of a cigarette crossed my mind, I merely asked God for another dose of strength.

May will start my FIFTH year of smoke free. People smoking around me doesn't bother me---it just doesn't interest me.

The big benefit besides showing that God is awesome and in charge, better health, more $$$ to spend or save........I can tell the liberal do-gooding congresscowards to kiss my ass on my footing the bill for health insurance for others when they've driven the costs up to the point that I can't afford it!!!
