Once again, the hope is to lay down the cigarettes for good. Quit date is set for Jan 1.

You can do it JL. I'm guessing I had my last Kool in 1982? I loved those suckers.

I keep reminding myself I laid down the booze back in Dec of 87. I can do this. It's weird though, now that I have a quit date, I have become a chain smoking fool.

One suggestion, that I've made to others who wanted to quit. First, switch to a brand that has NO ADDITIVES, and smoke only that brand for at least one month, preferably two. Then, and only then, go ahead and quit. Cold turkey seems to work best. But right now you are most likely addicted to two things, nicotine and the additives in cigarettes. So first get rid of the additive addiction, then get rid of the nicotine addiction. Because trying to quit both at the same time can be more than most people can handle, and don't think that wasn't the plan.

Does "No Additives" mean the smae thing as "Additive Free"? Cause it says the latter on every box of Winstons I've come across in the last decade, and believe me, RJReynolds brands are not the path to pathogen-free living they claim.

Don't know. I had a friend who switched to Winstons before quitting, and according to him it made a difference. If you want to be really sure, I suggest you check out Shermans or another "boutique" brand. I used to smoke, got up to a pack a day, then said "what am I doing?" and quit right then. However, since I only smoked Shermans, quitting was no big deal.

There's tobacco grown by AmerIndians called Free Spirit or some such generic nonsense. Friends who have tried their cigs say you have to huff on them or they'll go out. Store-bought cigs keep burning whether you're there or not.

AmerIndians called Free Spirit

They're "American Spirits" and they are a damn good smoke. They last a good 10 minutes too because they don't have acetone or glycerine in them to make them burn down faster like commercial ciggies.

The American Spirits are not sugar-cured and flue dried either like commercial cigs. One of the worst carcinogens there is is burning sugar. That's what makes commercial cigs so bad.

Light ciggarettes are worse than regular ones because they put more additives in them to give them taste.

they put more additives in them to give them taste.

From my carton:

Ingredients: Blended tobacco, water, high fructose corn syrup, glycerol, propylene gycol, sucrose, invert sugar, casing flavor, natural & artifical licorice flavor, menthol, artifical milk chocolate, natural chocolate flavor, artifical tobacco flavor, valerian root extract, molasses extract, vanilla extract, valillin, isovaleric acid, cedarwood oil, phenylacetic acid, patchouli oil, hexanoic acid, vetiver oil, oilbanum oil, 3-methylpentanoic acid, denatured ethanol. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Christ, with all the sugar and chocolate in that, I should weigh 500 lbs! No wonder they are so damn hard to put down!

...artifical tobacco flavor...

You know it's pretty bad when the tobacco doesn't taste enough like tobacco so they have to use artifical tobacco flavoring. How the Hell does that work? Is it like MSG for tobacco?
