Gun Restrictions Full Steam Ahead

FACT: The Bill of Rights is the only document standing between you and a tyrannical government.

This is why the U.S. government continues to assault the Bill of Rights, particularly the First, Second, and Fourth Amendments.

Every time they chip away at these Amendments, they come closer to stripping the Bill of Rights of its power to protect the people. If they achieve their objective, then the government will be free to do as it pleases.

And don’t kid yourself… the U.S. government is far from benevolent. Its recent drone strike on a Yemeni wedding party should be proof enough of that.

This is why I write about government abuses of power. We must be ever vigilant so we can try to stop what is happening, speak out against it, or at least prepare for it.

With that in mind, here’s one of the latest attacks on liberty you need to be aware of…

Gun and Constitution

State governments continue to pass unconstitutional laws that restrict gun ownership and violate the Second Amendment.

Federal Judge Upholds New York Gun Restrictions

A federal judge has just ruled in favor of New York’s ban on so-called “assault weapons” and high-capacity magazines.

On the one hand, the judge struck down a provision that would have made it illegal for New Yorkers to load a magazine with more than seven bullets. On the other hand, he supported the rest of the law.

The NY Times explains the judge’s twisted logic:

A federal judge ruled on Tuesday that New York’s expanded ban on assault weapons and high-capacity magazines was constitutional, but struck down a provision forbidding gun owners from loading their firearms with more than seven rounds.

The judge, William M. Skretny of Federal District Court in Buffalo, called the seven-round limit “an arbitrary restriction” that violated the Second Amendment.

But Judge Skretny said the greater restrictions on assault weapons and high-capacity magazines were constitutional because they served to “further the state’s important interest in public safety.”

Apparently, somebody forgot to tell this federal judge that the Constitution, and particularly the Bill of Rights, was intended to protect individual liberties… not the “state’s important interests.”

And this is the problem…

Judges, who are supposed to be impartial interpreters of the law, have become activist legislators by creatively interpreting laws and promoting the anti-gun agenda of their D.C. masters.

Gun Restrictions Not Just a New York Problem

You may be tempted to think this is not your problem because you don’t live in New York. But just because you live elsewhere doesn’t mean you’re safe from government overreach. Second Amendment rights are being attacked all over the country.

Want proof? I’ve got some…

California has actually hired armed agents to go door to door to confiscate handguns… and even the state of Colorado passed three new gun control laws in early 2013 (which prompted the 200-employee magazine manufacturer Magpul to declare its intent to leave the state).

Like dominoes, when one state falls to bad legislation, another is soon to follow.

State governments made major progress toward restricting access to guns in 2013. Will 2014 be the year of widespread gun confiscation?

I certainly hope not. Because once Americans are unarmed, the government will be empowered to violate the First and Fourth Amendments with impunity.

But if they can ban light bulbs, they can certainly ban guns.
