On October 18, 2014, the Atlantic Monthly, in an article by Jeffrey Goldberg, made reference to an unnamed US State Department official as having insulted the Israeli leader. This is what Goldberg wrote: “The other day I was talking to a senior Obama administration official about the foreign leader who seems to frustrate the White House and the State Department the most. ‘The thing about Bibi is, he’s a chickenshit,’ this official said, referring to the Israeli prime minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, by his nickname.” However, Goldberg got the story wrong, very wrong. The real comment traces down to a meeting of the National Security Council, a meeting with Secretary of State Kerry, Secretary of Defense Hagel, JCOS General Dempsey and President Obama in attendance. Goldberg is, it seems, softening the blow to Netanyahu. Sources direct to the President confirm that it was Secretary of State Kerry, in response to a discussion of 1,000 planned illegal Israeli settlements in the occupied West Bank, who made the statement, something far different than the bizarre implied reference Goldberg seems to have “pulled out of a hat.” Kerry is quoted by those at the meeting as having said to President Obama: “Netanyahu seems to think, just because we are a week away from an election, that we are helpless? He has obviously lost his ‘friggin’ mind.” Other statements minimally reference Netanyahu as “unsound” and untrustworthy. None used the term “chickenshit.” Goldberg’s article in the Atlantic is more than just a hoax. Now, Israeli officials are running around demanding that American public officials apologize to Jeffrey Goldberg’s imagination. It just doesn’t get any better than this. Even Netanyahu, playing the “victimization card” has chimed in: “I am only being criticized because I am defending Israel.” The role of The Atlantic, formerly owned by Israeli Mort Zuckerman, is now essentially run by Jeffrey Goldberg. Goldberg, a veteran of the IDF, served as a guard or “capo” in a concentration camp where Palestinian civilians were starved and tortured. One letter was addressed to the commander of the National Unit for the Investigation of Prison Wardens and demanded than a criminal investigation be opened against the prison guards who had used excessive force. The second letter was addressed to the Israel Prison Service Commissioner and detailed inappropriate behavior by the IPS including delays in the treatment of prisoners who had been wounded in the incident and their transferal to medical facilities.” Goldberg, according to sources, returned to the US after receiving intelligence training. Soon he began fabricating articles about Al Qaeda cells operating in Iraq. Former CIA Director James Woolsey cites Goldberg as instrumental in manipulating the US into invading Iraq. Colonel James Hanke, psychological warfare expert, former Attaché to Israel, and onetime neighbor of Netanyahu says this about Goldberg: “Jeffrey Goldberg is a classic intelligence operative. He went to Israel right out of college, attached himself to a communist run kibbutz, worked in a prison camp for military intelligence, and before being assigned to return as a disinformation agent in the US, was given a stint at the Jerusalem Post, to fill in his resume. Then he published a book on his prison camp experience, a self-serving missive making him the personification of “Sergeant Shultz” of TV series Hogan’s Heroes fame. Goldberg walked into a top position at the New York Times, remade into a liberal human rights advocate, a position he used effectively to manage the Israeli propaganda effort leading to the ill-fated 2003 US invasion of Iraq. Goldberg is one of a half dozen individuals whose influence helped bring about the disaster we are seeing today.” Goldberg’s role at the Atlantic is far more than simply a place for him to stir up a “witches brew.” The Atlantic itself, as we learn, was remade from a literary journal with top quality fiction, to a “disinformation rag” tasked with dominating “all things Israel.” All discussions of Israel, all criticism of Israel, channels through the Atlantic, spun by Goldberg personally, and then on to other press assets, the Murdoch empire, Wall Street Journal, Fox News, the New York Post, or to the New York Times, Washington Post, or the many online publications, Huffington Post or Jane Harmon’s infamous “Daily Beast,” ordered, in 2013, to remove a story outlining a non-existent US order for a “no fly zone” over Syria. In truth, The Atlantic is Jeffrey Goldberg, and Goldberg is the personal intercessor for Netanyahu. That a trained agent with a “half-laundered legend” could operate with such impunity inside the Zionist dominated New York press community is a surprise to no one. That so few know of his real background, however, should well be questioned.
