LONDON - British wartime leader Winston Churchill wanted Adolf Hitler to be summarily executed like a common gangster in a U.S.-supplied electric chair, according to previously secret documents released on Sunday. Churchill also believed that putting Hitler and other Nazi German leaders on trial after World War Two would be a farce and they should instead be treated as outlaws and promptly executed. The fresh glimpse into history was revealed in newly declassified records from British war cabinet meetings. The notes, officially released by the National Archives after a gap of 60 years, were taken by cabinet secretary Norman Brook. In cabinet discussions on what they might do with Hitler if he was captured, Churchill said in December 1942: “If Hitler falls into our hands we shall certainly put him to death.” “This man is the mainspring of evil,” he added. The British leader even suggested the Nazi dictator could be executed in an electric chair from the United States -- just like a gangster meeting his end. “Execute the principal criminals as common outlaws,” Churchill also said, voicing his objections to a war crime tribunal which he believed would be a farcical mock trial. With pungency and force, using first-hand acccounts, Elliot told the truth about his father's bitter fights with Churchill, leading the historian Arthur Schlesinger, Jr. to state in a contemporary review that the book's central thesis was that Roosevelt saw Great Britain and its imperial system as a far greater adversary to the United States than Russia. Some historians have charged the younger Roosevelt with inaccuracies in reporting. However, Elliot's reports have been subsequently supported by reams of declassified documents, as well as first-hand accounts from the day. What emerges is the story of a pitched battle between two powerful actors on the stage of history--often fought in the open--over two diametrically opposed visions for the postwar world.
I never heard about this Roosevelt plan. Yes, I think the possibility of openning up the 3rd Reich's financial records would have been too much for Sir Winsty to bear. Prescott Bush and his son George HW Bush must have been very thankful too.

Very true...Gen. Patton perhaps discovered the Shell Game...too late. The unmistakable hatred which had been directed at him during this press conference finally opened Patton's eyes fully as to what was afoot. In his diary that night lie wrote: "There is a very apparent Semitic influence in the press. They are trying to do two things: first, implement communism, and second, see that all businessmen of German ancestry and non-Jewish antecedents are thrown out of their jobs. They have utterly lost the Anglo-Saxon conception of justice and feel that a man can be kicked out because somebody else says he is a Nazi. They were evidently quite shocked when I told them I would kick nobody out without the successful proof of guilt before a court of law . . . Another point which the press harped on was the fact that we were doing too much for the Germans to the detriment of the DP's, most of whom are Jews. I could not give the answer to that one, because the answer is that, in my opinion and that of most nonpolitical officers, it is vitally necessary for us to build Germany up now as a buffer state against Russia. In fact, I am afraid we have waited too long." And in a letter of the same date to his wife: "I will probably be in the headlines before you get this, as the press is trying to quote me as being more interested in restoring order in Germany than in catching Nazis. I can't tell them the truth that unless we restore Germany we will insure that communism takes America."

His duties as military governor took Patton to all parts of Germany and intimately acquainted him with the German people and their condition. He could not help but compare them with the French, the Italians, the Belgians, and even the British. This comparison gradually forced him to the conclusion that World War II had been fought against the wrong people.

Eisenhower's Starvation Order Never had so many people been put in prison. The size of the Allied captures was unprecedented in all history. The Soviets took prisoner some 3.5 million Europeans, the Americans about 6.1 million, the British about 2.4 million, the Canadians about 300,000, the French around 200,000. Uncounted millions of Japanese entered American captivity in 1945, plus about 640,000 entering Soviet captivity. [Above: A U.S. Army soldier stands guard over thousands of German POWs at Sinzig-Remagen, spring 1945.] As soon as Germany surrendered on 8 May 1945, the American Military Governor, General Eisenhower, sent out an "urgent courier" throughout the huge area that he commanded, making it a crime punishable by death for German civilians to feed prisoners. It was even a death-penalty crime to gather food together in one place to take it to prisoners ... The order was sent in German to the provincial governments, ordering them to distribute it immediately to local governments. Copies of the orders were discovered recently in several villages near the Rhine ... The message [which Bacque reproduces] reads in part: "... under no circumstances may food supplies be assembled among the local inhabitants in order to deliver them to the prisoners of war. Those who violate this command and nevertheless try to circumvent this blockade to allow something to come to the prisoners place themselves in danger of being shot...." Eisenhower's order was also posted in English, German and Polish on the bulletin board of Military Government Headquarters in Bavaria, signed by the Chief of Staff of the Military Governor of Bavaria. Later it was posted in Polish in Straubing and Regensburg, where there were many Polish guard companies at nearby camps. One US Army officer who read the posted order in May 1945 has written that it was "the intention of Army command regarding the German POW camps in the US Zone from May 1945 through the end of 1947 to exterminate as many POWs as the traffic would bear without international scrutiny." ... The [American] army's policy was to starve [German] prisoners, according to several American soldiers who were there. Martin Brech, retired professor of philosophy at Mercy college in New York, who was a guard at Andernach in 1945, has said that he was told by an officer that "it is our policy that these men not be fed." The 50,000 to 60,000 men in Andernach were starving, living with no shelter in holes in the ground, trying to nourish themselves on grass. When Brech smuggled bread to them through the wire, he was ordered to stop by an officer. Later, Brech sneaked more food to them, was caught, and told by the same officer, "If you do that again, you'll be shot." Brech saw bodies go out of the camp "by the truckload" but he was never told how many there were, where they were buried, or how.

Read this quote..now doesnt this sound vaguely familiar? In a speech in Frankfurt in 1945, he (Eisenhower) declared: "The success or failure of this occupation will be judged by the character of the Germans 50 years from now. Proof will come when they begin to run a democracy of their own and we are going to give the Germans a chance to do that, in time."

All I know is that we are yet again at war with yet another "monster", the never ending state of permawar having now been achieved with the establishment of "terrorism" as our new primary enemy of the state. I'm sick and tired of being told that we have to blow up and torture people in the name of what's good and decent, and now we have put ourselves in a position where we are going to be blowing up and torturing people for as long as the Stars and Stripes waves. As far as I'm concerned one can no longer call oneself "good and decent" when one engages in torturing and blowing up people. How long before the rest of the world decides they've had enough? And what happens then? We're not the only people on the planet who can do damage on a mass scale.
