The best thing about these items isnt that they serve multiple purposes at a high level although they do. The best thing is that they allow you to become a masterful improviser. Items like paracord, aluminum foil, and hydrogen peroxide are a few examples. In this post, Im going to nominate vinegar as one of the most useful items to have on hand in an emergency. Vinegar has way, way more than 13 uses. In fact, Im positive that it has over 100 uses that you could use to save money and make your life easier on a daily basis. For the purpose of this list, however, Im looking at vinegar through the lens of a crisis situation where many everyday items are scarce. ◾Clean and Disinfect Most Surfaces - Mix 1 part vinegar with 1 part water in a spray bottle and use it to clean sinks, counters, shower walls, mirrors, and windows (for this method, wipe glass with newspaper instead of paper towels to minimize streaking). ◾Treat Athletes Foot - Wet a cotton ball with equal parts water and vinegar and apply to the problem area every night. Wait for your feet to dry before putting on socks and shoes. ◾Disinfect Wood Cutting Boards - Dont mix vinegar with water for this one. Simply wipe with plain vinegar to disinfect wood cutting boards and neutralize odors. ◾Trap Annoying Fruit Flies Simply pour vinegar into a small dish and add a few drops of dish soap on top. Then place plastic wrap tightly over the concoction, poking a few holes in the top to allow the flies inside. Leave it out on a counter or cabinet for a few days and youll notice flies accumulating in your trap. ◾Improve Lantern Wicks - Soak lantern wicks in vinegar for several hours then let them air dry. They will burn longer and brighter. ◾Soothe Bug Bites - Soak a cotton ball with vinegar then dab your bug bite with it until the itching stops. However, dont do this if the area is already raw. ◾Soothe Sore Throats - Add a tablespoon of vinegar to a glass of warm water and gargle with it once an hour until your sore throat is gone. ◾forsaleStop Ants - Washing counters, cabinets and floors with vinegar will keep ants away. ◾Stop Heartburn - Simply swallow a tablespoon of vinegar when you have heartburn. Doing this causes the esophagus to close and stops stomach acids from bothering you. ◾Unclog Drains - Sprinkle 1/4 cup of baking soda into your drain, then add 1/4 cup of vinegar. Wait for the mixture to bubble up, then rinse with water. ◾Wash Produce - Mix 3 parts water and 1 part vinegar and scrub your produce with it. This will remove bacteria and pesticides. When youre done, rinse them with water. ◾Pickle Foods The ability to preserve foods in a situation where electricity and refrigeration are unreliable is golden. With vinegar, you can preserve foods like eggs to last for 2 months. ◾Fight Dandruff Many dont know that vinegar is an old remedy for dandruff. Simply rinse your hair with 2 cups of vinegar after shampooing. Do you know any other survival uses for vinegar? Share your idea in the comments section below! Check www.bragg.com for a bazillion more uses for wonderful vinegar.
Just found a quart of Bragg Apple Cider Vinegar at Wal-Mart. Good stuff. ;)
Great! it's too pricey for cleaning the house, but we take two tablespoons daily for general health and well-being. Cheers.
