Like them or not, that is the way it is; if the laws need to be changed for dope like they were for alcohol back in the day (when it took repeal of a constitutional ban on alcohol to get it done), then so be it. We have a legislative and executive branch process for passing and enforcing our laws, and they ought to apply always, not just when a president deems them necessary or voters in certain states voice their preference. But what has us confounded is not so much the fact that President Obama has chosen to look the other way as Washington and Colorado defy federal pot laws after all, he bragged about the fact that he did inhale when he was smoking dope in his earlier years because that was the point. Rather, we wonder why, with all of the uproar over the ill-effects of second-hand tobacco smoke, there are no similar concerns being voiced about second-hand pot smoke, especially after the findings of a recent study found similar health-related issues. As far as the ill-effects of cigarette smoking are concerned, that is what the Democrats like to call settled science; this is unlike global warming/climate change science, which is all based on faulty, unproven computer modeling. Indeed, tobacco studies and those involving second-hand tobacco smoke have produced solid, duplicable evidence proving beyond a doubt their cancer-causing side-effects. No models; just real results. That now appears to be the case with second-hand pot smoke. Smoke is smoke, Matthew Springer, author of the study and an associate professor of medicine at University of California San Francisco, told CBS. Both tobacco and marijuana smoke impair blood vessel function similarly. People should avoid both, and governments who are protecting people against secondhand smoke exposure should include marijuana in those rules. As further reported in The Daily Signal: "In the study, laboratory rats were exposed to secondhand marijuana smoke for 30 minutes. Researchers then used a high-resolution ultrasound to measure their blood vessel function. They found that function was reduced by 70 percent, a rate similar to the effect of secondhand tobacco smoke. CBS noted: Reduced blood vessel function can increase a persons risk of developing hardened arteries, which could lead to a heart attack. Marijuana for a long time was viewed as a relatively innocuous drug, but a lot of that came from a lack of information, Dr. Stephen Thornton, a toxicologist at the University of Kansas Hospital, told CBS. Now, as more and more people are using it, were finding more and more detrimental effects. People just need to be cautious. Smoking anything is bad for you. Everyone knows that secondhand cigarette smoke is bad for you, Cully Stimson, manager of The Heritage Foundations National Security Law Program, told The DS. Pot pushers want people to believe that the law of chemistry and physics cease to exist when applied to pot. That simply is not the case. Todays marijuana is a dangerous substance, much more so than alcohol. It is a Schedule I controlled dangerous substance for good reason, and must remain so. CBS went onto note that because the findings were presented at a medical meeting they should be viewed as preliminary until published in a peer-reviewed journal, but that is pending. Bummer, dude. Do you think federal and state laws governing second-hand tobacco smoke should now be changed to include second-hand marijuana smoke? Do you think President Obama ought to be ensuring that ALL U.S. drug laws are enforced equally? Or do think MORE studies need to be done to determine the dangers, if any, of second-hand pot smoke? RAIL ON US! Poster Comment: I hung out in smoky gin mills for a long time. No bad side effects near as I can tell. I don't smoke cigs, either. Post Comment Private Reply Ignore Thread
