With Goldi-Lox dead and the year coming to an end, the time has come for me to bid a fond farewell to all of you. This is my final message on Liberty Post.

I have been planning this for a while now. This board was a refreshing refuge from the madness at TOS, and I have really enjoyed my years here, but as time has gone by I have found myself posting less and less frequently -- not just to this board, but to the Internet in general. I'm afraid that over the past twenty years of being on the Net I've said pretty much all I have to say on every topic, and I feel as though I'm just repeating myself endlessly to no good purpose. There was once a time when sites like this had value, where people could hash out ideas or argue about the truth or just flame away for pure entertainment, but now we are in the post-idea, post- truth, and post-entertainment era of the Information Age, and I don't see the point in banging on and on. Oh, there are still ideas, there is still entertainment, and of course there is still truth, but you won't find them on the Internet. They are to be found in Real Life.

For this reason, and for others, I have decided to resign from the Internet -- or at least from the Internet of message boards, of reading and posting and arguing. In 2015 America, there is nothing left for us to argue about. Everyone has long since staked out a position on the battlefield of opinion and they are going to defend that position, right or wrong, to the death. I'm no fan of cops, as most of you know, but when people start shooting them in the face because the Internet told them to, it's time to say goodbye. When you can be stalked. hunted, fired from your job, beaten, or even killed because you posted an opinion that the Internet didn't agree with, it's time to bid the whole mess adieu. I mean, this whole thing is really getting out of hand. This is nuts.

I will still have e-mail -- I have to, for business reasons -- and I will still read the news and do a certain amount of research online. I will very likely watch the occasional cat video as well. But I'm more or less finished with the Tubes for any other purpose. I think I'll try discussing the issues with other, non-electronically-augmented human beings, while there still are any. I think I'll attempt to enjoy the world of bees, babies, and books again, while bees, babies and books still exist. Less time typing things for strangers, more time staring into tea mugs and drawing funny pictures. My kids are still little, but the are growing up, and I think I'll go spend time goofing off with them while I still can.

So adieu, everyone. It's been fun, but the year is going, Goldi-Lox is gone, and I think that's my cue to go as well.

Goodbye, Liberty Post.

I don't know when I have ever read a nicer opus than that. Most of the people who write them are pissed at the owner of the board or some of the posters and they flame them on the way out. But I thought this one was good and thought I would share it here.

He got that right!

This electronically oriented society is destroying humanity. I cannot even imagine what it's like being a kid today and the loss of the things that most if not all of us here grew up with as kids w/o the electronic component of society.

You can live your life perfectly, not that I have mind you, and have one bad moment that gets caught by some hypocritical bastard on video that gets posted on the internet that ruins your life in today's world and culture.

Couple that with the absurd overemphasis on money and wealth by most people that don't seem to care where or how they get money/wealth, and well, its clear that this nation if nor most of the world worships mammon and that we are reaping the fruits of it.

But I digress ...

Back to the electronic culture. I've determined that I'm going to die in prison after killing someone that I've selected randomly of the hundreds of drivers that sits there at a green light after the five cars ahead of him/her while texting as I and other cars behind me have to sit there and wait for the asshole to finish while missing the light.

If there's a perfect poster-moment for our new society, that's it.

FUCK THE REST OF THE WORLD AND EVERYONE ELSE AROUND ME, I'M SOCIALLY ENGAGED IN ELECTRONICS!

We've created our own hell.

Obviously I was embellishing re: my fate, but it says little for a society where everyone just does what they want with the implications clearly being fuck everyone else.

We as a society used to largely live by the Golden Rule, today we live by the anti-Golden Rule. Since the Golden Rule is Christian as taught by Christ, what we have left is an anti-Christian society and world.

I drive a lot for a living and you wouldn't believe some of what I've come across.

I had one guy do this, so I politely and briefly gave a tap on my horn just to get the guy to move on. He didn't, twice, so I finally wailed on my horn.

We make the left turn at the light despite the fact that many cars behind me missed it as a result. there's three lanes to turn into for the one left turn lane, so I go around this self-centered douche bag and get onto the interstate.

He follows me to the next exit, ends up being about four cars behind me, and then gets out of his car and comes to my window threateningly, which I quickly made clear what would happen if he even so much as stuck a finger into my car, and he says to me as part of his greater rant, "what, you don't text in your car?!"

I was flabbergasted. Literally stunned.

When this becomes the prevailing way of thinking in our society, and it has become exactly that, then we are beyond hope for the immediate future.

I cringe at the technology still to come out and am glad that I won't have to live much longer with it. It has already well outpaced the good of humanity.

I'm awaiting the day when people can marry computers.

"what, you don't text in your car?!"

I would have been stunned too. How old was the douchebag?

I'm guessing mid-20's.

I grabbed the can of mace that I have in my car that's readily available, he saw it and said that he saw it.

I said "good, that's the idea. But if you think that's all that's going to happen to you if you put your hands inside my car you're sorely mistaken. Your arm will end up broken in at least three spots and after that I plan on getting out to finish the job and one of us will be dead after this little incident. ... now, what was it that you wanted?"

It was at that very moment that his demeanor went from one of challenging and threatening to one of backing off and defending himself rather than offensively challenging me. Funny how that works.

I've learned to remain absolutely calm in these situations, never look at others even that do crazy things on the highway, etc. Just drive legally and pretend that nothing's going on until your hand is forced, as in this case.

He said a few more words, the light changed, and presumably with his car still running, in the other of two lanes awaiting at the interstate exit, again, several cars back, I drove on.

This is one of numerous similar incidents that I've encountered, some with me, others involving other people that I'm happy to be witness to. The difference between me and most other people is that I'll give you a friendly tap on the horn once, maybe twice depending upon the circumstances, then I'll honk NYC style [at least the old NYC style since the new rules there] until you move.

I have zero patience with anyone that thinks that they're the center of the universe. None whatsoever. Unfortunately it's the rule these days, not the exception any longer making life on this planet in increasing veritable hell.

I'm recommending you for anger management training.

If your incident escalated to being in the public record, you'd be paying some sort of county employee to teach you to be nice.

Emphasis on the word "pay".

Well, at least I'm fool of the year.

Wait until I tell the tavern regulars. I'm afraid they'll all agree!

Merry Christmas to you and Katniss and everyone else reading here.

Agree, as long as I'm not #1 in social media usage.
