Edward Herrmann, who was best known for playing Lorelei's father on Gilmore Girls, died on Wednesday at the age of 71.

"Edward Herrmann, besides being an accomplished actor, he was also a true gentleman and a scholar, as well as being an incredibly kind and decent man. He will be sorely missed," Herrmann's manager, Robbie Kass, wrote in an email to HuffPost Entertainment.

The actor had been battling brain cancer and died in a New York hospital intensive care unit after his family decided to take him off the respirator, TMZ reports.

The Emmy award-winning actor, who also appeared in The Lost Boys, Grey's Anatomy and The Good Wife, was married twice and leaves behind a wife, Star, two daughters and a stepson.

Earlier this month, the actor filed legal papers in New York City, suing his Manhattan-based accounting firm for $14.5 million, claiming negligence and malpractice.

According to the New York Daily News, Herrman and his wife learned that they could owe $1.25 million in taxes, penalties and interest because of "massive errors" in returns filed by his accountants.

Lauren Graham, who played Herrmann's daughter on Gilmore Girls, took to Twitter to pay tribute to her TV dad.

"My friend Ed Herrmann was the kindest, classiest, most talented man," she wrote. "It was an honor and a joy to know him, a devastating blow to lose him."

Poster Comment:

Every American should know Ed Hermann as the STAR of "Harry's War" ... an anti-IRS movie that is hard to find.(1 image)

Gilmore Girls is an adorable series.

I've never seen Harry's War!

I had a difficult time finding a copy and let someone borrow it ... it is somewhere in the abyss now.

It's a comedy that offers some insight into the ridiculousness of IRS attacks. I think I may have seen it about 25 or more years ago.

I saw that movie.

Americans who have no experience with, or knowledge of, tyranny believe that only terrorists will experience the unchecked power of the state. They will believe this until it happens to them, or their children, or their friends. Paul Craig Roberts

Until this moment I had forgotten all about it. Haven´t seen it. Or don´t remember seeing it. But I remember it being advertised.

The only redeeming parts in Gilmore Girls was his part and the part of his granddaughter. For the most part (the first 4 chapters on Netflex was all I could stand), it is just a stupid soap opera for people with low or on below average intelligence.

I WITHDRAW MY CONSENT!
Any perceived compliance with unconstitutional “laws” or orders put forth by government employees is NOT recognition of their authority; it is simply the result of carefully calculated submission to an entity exhibiting superior firepower.

You posted an article found on the internet. Nothing wrong with that nor with the headline which states he died. And, there is nothing wrong with an actor earning money playing a part.

It's worth a watch. I couldn't find this video at Blockbuster back in the day.

A commentary on this amazing movie --

http://patriotcannon.blogspot.com/2015/02/rip-harry-but-not-his-story.html

It was directed by a very sane Mormon gentleman, the father of like 7 kids. I interviewed him for a newsletter years ago. As film it's a superb moral drama with many wholesome laughs, but would never be made today what with its depiction of IRS agents getting mangled in various delicious ways. Some of the agents' words in the film are taken straight from IRS publications and correspondence. Indeed by pure happenstance, the IRS was selectively auditing Mr. Merrill in the next room from where the film was being edited at one point, with Harry's declaring "I DECLARE WAR ON THE IRS" clearly audible over and over through the wall.
