Pravda...

The Federation of Jewish Communities in the Czech Republic has firmly opposed Russian President Vladimir Putin visiting Prague to attend ceremonies marking the 70th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz. According to the statement, Russia "doesn't respect international treaties, is aggressive abroad and uses its power to occupy the territory of a neighboring state". Does the historical memory mean nothing to Jews on the Czech Republic? Senior research scientist at the Institute of Scientific Information for Social Sciences of the Russian Academy of Sciences Yuliya Scherbakova talked about it in an interview to Pravda.Ru.

"I wouldn't talk like that about Jews in the Czech Republic, but there is a connection with the Jewish lobby from the U.S. We know that there are rather strong Jewish organizations there, and the U.S. is pursuing the policy of putting pressure on Russia from all possible directions," Yuliya Scherbakova noted.

A Pravda.Ru correspondent asked the expert if it could be that Vladimir Putin comes to the Czech Republic but heads of other victorious powers will refuse to attend memorial events because of his presence?

"I don't know. I cannot foresee actions of heads of other states, based on the information I have. I know that the U.S. administration is currently considering Obama's visit to Russia to celebrate the 70th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War. There is no final decision yet," Yuliya pointed out.

The Chief Rabbi of the city of Prague and of the Czech Republic Karol Sidon said earlier that he was hopeful that the Russian President would not come. According to Sidon, he was a signatory to Charter 77, in '80s he was prosecuted by the Czech state security authorities and was forced to leave homeland for the Federal Republic of Germany, where he converted to Judaism. The Pravda.Ru correspondent asked the expert if it was because of Sidon's Russophobia and not the stance taken by the Federation of Jewish Communities in the Czech Republic?

"Both Sidon and the Federation announced their stances. We cannot equate these two statements. Maybe he had some influence on the decision taken by the Federation. But in my opinion, the American trace is far more obvious here," Yuliya said.

The Czech Republic voted against the UN Resolution "Glorification of Nazism: Inadmissibility of certain practices that contribute to fuelling contemporary forms of racism, racial discrimination, xenophobia and related intolerance". The correspondent asked why was that and if there was a connection to the abovementioned statements? Can we make a conclusion that the Federation of Jewish Communities in the Czech Republic has nothing to do with Jews and just executes its government's order?

"No. I do not know what motives the Czech Republic had to vote like that, but it is inappropriate to raise such a question. In my opinion, there are not so many Jews in the Czech Republic. They are not so strong. In general, there are not so many of them left in Europe any more. Hence I would not say that they were somehow connected to the government," Yuliya Scherbakova summarized.

Rocky Racoon в 06:02 30 декабря 2014 Russia should remember this when "Bandera's" of one form or another come knocking on their door as will happen-fascism is the default position of capitalism in crisis and who are we kidding about recovery-the feds print dollars and buy their own stock and they call that a recovery-if there was a recovery USA would not be looting other countries every other day of the week.

frogjumptonykey в 06:00 30 декабря 2014 For the record - I'm an American, who did not serve in the Armed Forces, nor am I Jewish or Russian by blood - (as far as I know) - but to deny our Russian Allies who fought valiantly during WWII and suffered immense numbers of casualties - is to deny not only history but the spilled blood of Russian patriots - this is shameful - the Jews, from whatever tribe, from whatever orthadoxy - should welcome a great President like Putin with open arms during such an occasion - and, if there are any underlying issues that might be addressed, they could be stated from the podium with tact and diplomacy - without abrasive language that might embarass him before other world leaders - take it from an honest American Christian, who reads Pravda for it's additional perspective, and appreciates Putin's stand against the desecration of Russia's shared value system against Zionist extremists who mean to overthrow Christianity worldwide - one newpaper, one TV network, one Hollywood box-office blowhard at a time - Putin's got guts where America's Ivy-League educated Presidents' turn to jelly in the face of huge Hollywood paychecks from Zionist-led fundraisers - "Putin is...", as the song goes, "... just allright with me..." Quote me on that, pal.... Ответить

barry amoba в 12:45 02 января Winnie the Pooh, what makes you think there is any truth to this article ? And what makes you think Russia saved jews deliberately rather than as an ocassional side effect of other actions taken ? Do you know what percentage of Russia's jewish population perished in the gulag ? When you do, you will be able to express intelligent opinions ОтветитьСвернуть ветку⇑ James F. Hazel в 03:12 26 декабря 2014 In every war, the Victors write the History books. There is much evidence to suggest that Josef Stalin had the "gas chamber" at Auschwitz constructed AFTER the war, for propaganda purposes. Jews have greatly exaggerated their suffering during WW2. War is a terrible thing, but the Jewish Bankers were about the only people to gain from the catastrophe of WW2. Russia and China must institute a NEW ECONOMIC SYSTEM that takes the profit out of war, and brings Peace and Hope to Humanity.

vbf00 в 01:05 26 декабря 2014 Shura, During the last 100 years Russia (or the Russian-dominated Soviet Union) has attacked and/or occupied every neighbor country except one. I do not understand why you are asking specifically for wars Russia started after the end of World War II (which the nazis and Russia started together in close cooperation). But anyway, here is a list of some wars where Russia (or the Soviet Union) took part in after 1945: The Soviet Union fought against freedom fighters in Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania until 1956. The Soviet Union cooperated with North Korea in attacking South Korea in 1950 and onwards. The Soviet Union took a strong role in fighting against people wanting democracy in Hungary in 1956. The Soviet Union invaded Czechoslovakia in 1968. The Soviet Union started a war against Afghanistan in 1979 and kept fighting there for 10 years. Russia fought against Moldava in 1992. Russia fought against the Ingush people in 1992. Russia fought against the Tajiks starting in 1992. Russia was involved in Georgia in 1993. Putin fought a war against the Chechens in 1994-1996. Russia fought a war in Dagestan in 1999. Putin fought against the Chechens against in 1999-2009. (Russia fought against Georgia in 2008. Russia provoked Georgia before the war, but it was probably not Russia that fired the first shot.) Thousands of troops from the Russian Army are participating in the attack and occupation of parts of Ukraine now. By the way, your "dingbat" insult probably says more about yourself than about me. Shura Seredin в 04:22 26 декабря 2014 There is no such a thing as a "Christian nation" Russia has 190 different nationalities and languages. At least 25 million Russians are Muslims, several million are Budhists and many millions belongto native faiths. Read and learn before you open your mouth.

vbf00 в 00:19 26 декабря 2014 David Bradway, you have a point in that the number of dead Russians was higher than the number of dead in US, UK, France and Belgium. But please use correct and comparable numbers. Much more than one million people died in USA, UK, France and Belgium, and in addition there were other countries participating on the democratic side. About the approximately 21 - 28 million dead in the Soviet Union, please remember that many of them died because of the cruel Stalin. E.g., the Red Army burnt down huge numbers of Russian farms so that the approaching nazis should not find anything useful there, but very little was done to evacuate or otherwise help the Russian farmers, so lots of them starved and froze to death. During the siege of Leningrad, Stalin refused to evacuate all civilians over the Ladoga Lake, so that huge numbers of Russians froze and starved to death there. Political opponents were sent to participate at the front but were refused the right to carry a weapon, making them cannon fudder. And please also rember that the Soviet Union STARTED World War II together with their close cooperation partners, nazi Germany, when they attacked Poland together in 1939. The Russian attack/occupation of Finland, Poland, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and so on is NOT something the democratic countries are grateful for, from obvious reasons! Russian attackers and occupiers are NOT considered heroes! And, finally, after the war, Stalin did approximately everything that Hitler did: Genocide, occupation, suppression, breaches of http://english.pravda.ru/society/stories/25-12-2014/129389-usa_jews_russia-0/
