It appears they only got 10 Rs to vote against Boehner, despite 60% of the Republican base demanding new leadership. Please let them run Jeb. I doubt he would break 40%.

Have they voted?

On my screen it looks like they're still milling around, waiting to vote.

Sounds like the gavel is sounding now.

Rep. Trey Gowdy missed his flight to Washington Tuesday morning, but said he would have voted to re-elect John Boehner as speaker, despite an effort underway by some conservative members to oust him.

“A canceled flight, due to weather, from South Carolina to Washington this morning regrettably prevented me from being in Washington for today’s speaker vote,” Gowdy said in a statement. ”Had our flight not been canceled, I would have voted for our conference nominee, John Boehner.”

Reps. Louie Gohmert (R-Texas) and Ted Yoho (R-Fla.) mounted challenges against Boehner; Tuesday’s voice vote brought scattered votes for other members, including Gowdy himself, a conservative favorite.

“The position of speaker of the House is a difficult job as evidenced by the fact that so few members seek the position,” Gowdy said. “Speaker Boehner was approved overwhelmingly by the conference in November. In fact, not a single other name was placed in nomination.”

Just a backslappin' good time for the suits.

Excerpts from: Boehner takes revenge - Jake Sherman and John Bresnahan - POLITICO

Boehner moved swiftly to boot two of the insurgents from the influential Rules Committee.

The reason for dethroning the two Florida Republicans was simple: Webster ran against Boehner for speaker,

Nugent supported his fellow Floridian

It didn’t take more than a few hours for Webster – a legendary former Florida statehouse speaker and state Senate majority leader – and Nugent to find themselves on the outside of a power structure they were once very much a part of.

Members are already making noises about reversing any punitive action by Boehner and the leadership, although the speaker’s allies warn that further retaliation could be on the way.

The House Republican leadership is carefully reviewing the list of members who voted against the speaker and those who opposed a procedural motion in December on the so-called “crominibus,” the $1.1 trillion spending package to keep the government open through to September. Top Republican sources suggested that the process could take months to unfold.

Particular ire was directed toward Rep. Marlin Stutzman (R-Ind.), who had a dinner Monday night where the uprising was discussed. Dozens more Republicans could face a backlash.

The rebels don’t think they deserve anything but respect from the leadership and their colleagues, and none suggested they were sorry about publicly seeking to oust Boehner.

They are also aware that a price may have to be paid,

Tuesday’s tally brought “double the number” of anti-Boehner votes from 2013, noted Rep. Tim Huelskamp (R-Kan.), one of the most vocal thorns in Boehner’s side.

Huelskamp said he was denied a chance to get his seat back on the Agriculture Committee because of his opposition to Boehner. The Kansas Republican was removed from the panel in 2012.

about retaliation against those who voted their conscience, their constituents, their principles, to change the status quo,” Huelskamp said. “My colleagues fully expect that. That’s what they expect out of this leadership team.”

Rep. Steve King, the Iowa Republican who voted against Boehner, said, “If you cannot vote your conscience … then it’s clearly a dysfunctional system here."

as the week unfolded, a growing number of Republicans announced their opposition to Boehner,

On Monday night, Boehner met with Meadows, Rep. Justin Amash of Michigan and Rep. Matt Salmon of Arizona. Salmon, who has railed against some of Boehner’s decisions in managing the House, supported the speaker’s campaign.

the meetings continued almost up until Tuesday’s vote – and Boehner turned several more members in his direction. Earlier in the day, just before the speaker roll call began on the floor, Boehner met privately with Idaho Rep. Raul Labrador. Labrador skipped the 2013 vote, but supported Boehner on Tuesday.

"We don't need these fringe guys as much as we did anymore," said a GOP leadership aide, speaking on condition of anonymity. "We can let them walk on certain bills, and it just won't matter.

Republicans who voted against Boehner, and who they voted for, follow:

Justin Amash (Mich), Rep. Jim Jordan

Scott DesJarlais (Tenn.), Jordan

Excerpts from: Jim Jordan on the Verge of a Horatius Moment | RedState

Horatius stood at the Pons Sublicius as an invading army tried to conquer Rome. According to Babbington’s poem, Horatius famously asked “Who will stand on either hand and guard this bridge with me?”

Horatius saved Rome.

Congressman Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) finds himself in a similar moment. The Politico reports that privately Boehner’s aides and the Republican Leadership intend to use Rep. John Boehner‘s re-election to vanquish the conservative opposition with the House of Representatives just as they’ve done already to the Republican Study Committee, which Jordan once chaired.

if Jordan does not get in and Boehner is re-elected, much like Obama now realizing congressional Republicans will mount no serious effort to stop him, House Republican leaders will conclude tomorrow that House conservatives will mount no serious efforts to block their move left.

Will Rep. Jim Jordan keep the bridge?

Jim Jordan (U.S. politician) - Wikipedia

Jordan was named Watchdog of the Treasury (1996, 2000, 2004), Outstanding Legislator (2004), Outstanding Freshman Legislator (1996), Friend of the Taxpayer (1997), and Pro-Life Legislator of the Year (1998) by the United Conservatives of Ohio, the Defender of Life award from the Ohio Right to Life Society, and the 2001 Leadership in Government Award from the Ohio Roundtable and Freedom Forum.[citation needed] Additionally, Senate President Bill Harris appointed Jordan to be the chairman of the Senate Judiciary on Criminal Justice Committee.

Jordan chaired the Republican Study Committee during the 112th Congress. He was elected over Representative Louie Gohmert, who was backed by several tea party groups. Jordan reportedly turned down a position on the Appropriations Committee.

The 4th [District] has long been reckoned as one of the most (if not the most) Republican districts in Ohio and the nation

Jordan received [a vote two votes by Mich. Rep. Justin Amash and Tenn. Rep. Scott DesJarlais] for Speaker on the first day of the 113th Congress

Jordan voted for Boehner.

Republicans who voted against Boehner, and who they voted for, follow:

Curt Clawson (Fla.), Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.)

Gary Palmer (R-Ala.), Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-Ala.)

Excerpts from: Colin Powell, Rand Paul And Jeff Sessions Get Speaker Nods - talkradionews.com

Under the Constitution, the Speaker of the House does not have to be a member of Congress.

During Tuesday’s vote for Speaker of the House, three Representatives voiced their support for individuals who have never served in the lower chamber: former Secretary of State Colin Powell and Senators Rand Paul (R-Ky.), Jeff Sessions (R-Ala.).

Rep. Curt Clawson (R-Fla.) cast his vote for Paul and freshman Rep. Gary Palmer (R-Ala.) voted for Sessions.

Sessions endorsed Palmer during the latter’s House run.

Most protest votes in the GOP went for Florida Representative Daniel Webster, who ultimately received 12.

Rep. Jim Cooper (D-Tenn.), a Blue Dog Democrat, supported Powell instead of House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.). He had previously done so following the 2010 midterm elections.

Excerpts from: Florida Reps. Ted Yoho and Daniel Webster offered as alternative speakers Tampa Bay Times - tampabay.com

Webster, who was nominated by Rep. Steve King of Iowa, is a deep conservative but is viewed as more of an establishment figure and has kept a low profile in Washington since he was first elected in 2010.

In Florida, Webster is a revered figure, serving as speaker of the Florida House from 1996-98, the first Republican since Reconstruction.

He paid a price on Tuesday, however. Webster was removed from the Rules Committee, as was Rep. Rich Nugent, R-Spring Hill, who voted for Webster.

(Technically, anyone can be speaker. Colin Powell drew a vote.)

Rep. Gwen Graham, D-Tallahassee, kept a campaign promise and voted against fellow Democrat Nancy Pelosi. Instead she cast a vote for Rep. Jim Cooper of Tennessee.

Excerpt from: Who Else Got Votes for House Speaker - Washington Wire - WSJ

four Democrats cast ostensible protest votes against House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D., Calif.). Those went to former Secretary of State Colin Powell (Jim Cooper of Tennessee), Reps. Peter DeFazio of Oregon (Dan Lipinski of Illinois), John Lewis of Georgia (Krysten Sinema of Arizona) and Mr. Cooper (Gwen Graham of Florida).

Both of the "refusenik" nominees, McCarthy and Jordan, voted for Boehner.

Indeed, there aren't many doing their job to honorably represent the Constitution for us rather than promote their Parties and personal interests. Since Speakers of the House don't have to be members of Congress, I think We the People should nominate Constitutionalists of the public for that post and start those campaignings ASAP so that our elected candidate is best advantaged to become a world-renowned frontrunner by the time the next round of voting for the House's Speakership is to be conducted.
