The 2015 edition of the forum will be organized around the theme of "Money and Health," and is scheduled to be held in Strasbourg from Feb. 2 until Feb. 7. "No money, no health," continued Nisand, a professor of medicine, the director of the center for obstetric gynecology and senology at the university hospitals of Strasbourg, and the first vice-president of the forum's administrative board. The five-day event will feature live debates by industry experts, as well as youth and cultural programming. One of the subjects this year's program will investigate is the question of conflicts of interest in the pharmaceutical industry, and the role that major pharmaceutical companies have in incentivizing the prescription of certain drugs by health care professionals, despite possible dangers to the public. Concerning the conflicts of interest which trouble the pharmaceutical industry, Nadia Aubin, director and co-founder of the forum, called for vigilance, questioning "the credibility of the word of experts." To present the case against conflicts of interest, Dr. Irene Frachon is scheduled to speak on Saturday, Feb. 7th. Frachon, who won an "Ethics Prize" from the Anticor association in 2011, helped reveal the role of the drug benfluorex (also known as Mediator, which was used in treatments for diabetes and obesity) in the deaths by cardiac arrest of hundreds of patients being treated across France. "Today, we are very happy to not be financed by the big pharmaceutical companies," said Nisand, referring to the forum's reliance on public funding. The forum will not be one-sided, however, with the goal of fostering debate for a broad public. "Our objective is not to influence the law or the health system, it is simply to raise the consciousness of these themes for the public," explained Nisand. Post Comment Private Reply Ignore Thread
