You may have heard the news about a 63 year-old woman who was mauled to death by four dogs in Palmdale, California, when she was jogging last Thursday morning. While most such incidents dont end as tragically, joggers, runners, bicyclists and others know all too well the problem of suddenly being pursued, snapped at, or bitten by a loose, aggressive dog.
Heres what you should do if you feel threatened by a dog:
Stay calm. An aggressive dog wants you to be stressed out before it attacks, but if you remain calm and in control, it slows them down and throws them off.
Dont look the dog in the eye or make any sudden jerking moves.
If you think theres an imminent attack, try extending a purse, umbrella or stick anything the dog can latch onto instead of you. This will also make you appear bigger and be more in command of your space.
If the dog is going to bite you, the best place is on your non-dominant arm while you are hitting the dog with the other arm.

Survive Later!
