This is hard to listen to if you love your country. It's bitter medicine that most gringos are not ready to swallow. My fellow countrymen suffer from the tone deaf naiveté and pugnaciousness we attributed to the Germans. The Germans as a power of old were essentially surrounded. We are busy surrounding everyone else. We think we can tramp all over the globe kicking ass as it pleases us. That game is wearing thin indeed. In order to be successful empire you have to be respected and feared. We've lost on the former score and with the clumsy game we play with our adversaries, we're not much feared either. That sounds like a lot of the stuff I say to people! But his measured temperament certainly plays better than does my virulence & contempt. It's good that moderates such as O'Keefe here are able to reach a wider audience.
